triple negative breast cancer, metaplastic

does anyone  have this kind of cancer...?

What was /is your treatment?

Yes, I have metaplastic breast cancer.  I was diagnosed a year ago, had a mastectomy in December, and underwent CMF chemo for eight months.  I went to Sloan Kettering for a CAT scan on Aug. 2nd and, thank God, everything was clear.  I have to go for a mammography and a CAT scan on Feb. 7th.  My tumor was very small - less than 1 cm.  I am so thrilled that someone is looking into this cancer.  You have no idea how few people, including doctors, have never heard of it.

Thank you for replying:) Did you have chemo first? I am due to start chemo on monday for 12wks I am in a study at UCI irvine calif. after 4 wks of chemo they do a mri to see if tumor has shrunk, hopefully it will then I will continue for 4 more weeks...Then surgery after a month of no chemo.. It Is wonderful to hear a happy story...not many out there on TNBC. my tumor is grade 3..I am 51 and very active so hopefully, I can weather this storm... Any suggestions?

Hello..what is the difference in just triple negative and metaplastic? I have triple negative but no mention of metaplastic?

Metaplastic breast cancer does not have hormone receptors encluding HER2  , it is a subtype of breast cancer, So from my information it is the same as tnbc.

Mtnbiker...Thank you.  So except for not getting any benefit from the drugs...which I don't think I would have taken anyway, the treatment is the same I guess. I don't think the medical society should scare us with comments like"triple negative is the BAD breast cancer". All BC is bad but if you don't follow blindly, do your research, and keep the faith, we can survive. I chose an intergrative approach with a lumpectomy and "balloon" radiation. I said no to double mascectomy and chemo. And if I had it to do over would also say no to radiation..bad side effects, and fears of creating more cancer down the road. But by far the MOST important part of my recovery was a lifestyle change. I went from eating steaks and drinking champagne and never taking time for myself...to being a vegan,yoga, meditating me first ,without being selfess,kinda gal. There are many holistic cancer treatments out there that work.  I recently celebrated my 2 year anniversary cancer free and will never stop living a toxic free lifestyle. Everyone has to follow their gut and I wish total success to you,no matter what your choice of treatment is.

No, Missy, I did not have chemo before the mastectomy.  They didn't diagnose the tumor as metaplastic until after the mastectomy.  One lymph node was involved, so Sloan Kettering recommended that I have more lymph nodes removed, which I did, and, thank God, they were negative.  Missy, how large is your tumor?  My neighbor had stage 4 breast cancer, had chemo before the mastectomy, the tumor shrunk, and five years later, she is fine.  Let me know how you make out.  Maryelsa

Hi Missy,

I was diagnosed with metaplastic breast cancer in Jan '08. I had a double mastectomy then chemo. My tumor was grade 3 also. I was 33 then and I am currently doing fine...praise God. Being active and eating right is definitely a plus for you. I will keep you in my prayers.
