I am the daughter of a dialysis person who has RCC (Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma), kidney cancer that has been found in the lungs (NOT lung cancer) now.  My mom has been put on Sutent (Sunitinib) 50 mg 1X daily for 28 days on/14 days off.  She just started her first round so not experiencing any real side effects yet.  I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has been diagnosised with the same type of cancer and in the same health situation as my mom.   Looking for answers & support.

Yvonne, thanks...I just want to be there to make all these side effects not e so miserable for my mom.  Since she has been on the sutent for 12 days, she has had little side effects, which are an itching palm & some mouth soreness.  Her Oncologist did prescribe her some mouthwash and it numbs your mouth of the soreness.

Hope all goes well with your mom & definitely feel like we arent in this alone now.  Thanks

Positive & good faith will pull us all through this marathon.

:)

yes Scasner, we will win this battle...

i saw one post that states that mixing 1/2 teaspoon of sodium bicabornate (baking powder) and 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt with warm water to rinse mouth twice a day helps relieve the mouth ulcers..

you may want try that too..

My mother has also recently been diagnosed again after 20 years.  She is starting her 3rd week of sutent and is starting to have bad side affects.  My family has had some kind of flu so it's hard to tell what symptoms are from what.  She has diarrhea and a fever. Tomorrow I hope to get her to the doctors. She does not weigh a lot and I'm wondering if her dose needs to be cut in half.  Right now she's doing the 50mg 1x for 28 days.

Hi scasner, I was diagnosed with RCC in June 2009 with a large tumor on my right kidney. Due to the operation to remove it, my other kidney mostly shut down due to considerable loss of blood. I started out on hemo dialysis but then changed to PD. I was on sutent for about 14 months but had to change to something else when I couldn't tolerate even the half dose. What type of dialysis does your mom do? Sometimes I can't tell if my side effects are from dialysis or the Votrient. In any case, I'm still doing well as I continue to work full time and manage to travel. My CT scans have all been positive since switching to Votrient - I'm able to take the full dose.
