Hi Shitul, I was on the first round of treatment for Colon Cancer until May of 2010. I started to get a lot of pain at the site of the cancer in my colon. We had to use some strong narcotics to help with it. In June I whet through with surgery to remove the section of colon and Stent to see if this was the cause for the pain. It was a risky decision to do this but had to do something. We removed 12” of colon along with the stent that was placed to keep the colon open. Well as you can see I came through it very well. I have not had any pain nor do I need any pain meds now. I do use Celebrex on occasion for my athirst I have in my lower back and it works for the, I’ll call it discomfort, from the “TACO BUTT” you get. It is just a stronger NSAIDs then Advil-ibuprofen. Do not take any Acetaminophens; they are very hard on the liver.I do have meds to take for the nausea and neuropathy. They do work to a point. If you are no the meds that you become sensitive to cold or hot just try eating things that are at room temperature. I was drinking a supplement drink called “EMSURE”. It is a protein drink that is high in protein and low in fat. Also watch your potassium levels. Potassium replacement is not a fun thing. It takes about 4 hours added to the chemo treatment time. I’m not trying to scare anyone but these are things I have had to do so far and you can get through it too.I’m not sure what the exact first line of treatment I started on, because it is over a year ago, but I have been on this regiment since just before surgery of the colon resection.
Premeds:Aloxi,Decadron (put on hold for now. I am at my ideal weight now),Atropine (We will be changing this one next treatment)
Medications:5-FU CADD,Avastin (on hold for last 2 treatments),Camptosar,Leucovorin,
Injections:5 days of Neulasta shots to help bring up the PLT and NEUT counts
I hope this helps you out.
