Hi, my husband dx stage 3 cc in Aug 10'. Clear scans until Jan 12' shows mets to the liver. After only 3 rounds of Avastin his Cea has dropped from 22.5 to 5.9. Doc says anther scan in 2 months to check but why not now and move to some other form of treatment like abalation or SIRT spheres? How long should we have to wait? It's seems like we got this crap on the run and we should go for it. Any experiences or suggestions?
The main thing is to determine how many mets , where, and whether resectable or not.
Sir spheres is just another way to give chemo directly to the liver. The Docs first try the systemic therapy to reduce tumour and then determine radiation, or surgery etc. From what I know sir spheres are given if the first line of chemo fails.
Another big leap in treating liver cancer approved in Europe is delcath - see www,delcath.com
It is similar to sir spheres or HAI but a better delivery system. However, it is yet to be FDA approved.
Where are the mets and what is the size and how many are there will determine the treatment.
Pl keep me posted as I have similar issues and currently on chemo, 4 th round though.
