This is about my father!

Dear All,

My dad has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We got the CT and other blood reports on 03 April 2012. Doctors have confirmed that it is stage 4 PC and nothing can be done at this stage. My dad is 75 years old and a very healthy man. In last few weeks he lost nearly 15 kg and looks very weak. We have consulted all the well-known doctors (in India) and all of them have informed us that they will try and give him chemotherapy (apparently this is the only treatment). However, they are not very sure whether it will work on him given his present health condition and age. They also informed us that they will try chemo but if it does not work they have to stop it. After that there is nothing much to do. According to the doctors, he has nearly 6 months. Chemo may (or may not) make his quality of life better but it cannot be cured and his life expectancy would not increase under any circumstances. Now given the prognosis, I am not sure if I should go for chemotherapy (since it is painful) or I should try something else may be some alternate medicines such as advanced homeopathy. At this point, I am very confused and not very sure about the way forward. Since, doctors are not very sure about chemo, I am wondering, if it is a good idea to put him in so much pain. I would have taken the decision of giving him chemo if there is any hope. But unfortunately the doctors can’t say it for sure. Hence I am thinking of trying homeopathy and see if it can change his health condition. In a nut shell, if he has only few months left, I want to make these coming months painless for him.

Thanks for reading this and I would eagerly look forward to your suggestion.

Sorry to hear about your father.  What does he want to do? This is his choice not anyone else.  Chemo is hard on the body.  My husband went thru chemo at age 73 and it wasn't too bad for him but then he only had 3 chemo treatments.  Our neighbor went thru chemo at 78 and it hastened his death.  You must allow your father to decide and then honor his wishes.  Quality of life vs. quantity  -- it is a hard decision, but if it was my father, husband, mother, the decision would be theirs and I would honor it regardless of what I want.

Best wishes to your father and your family.

Thank you very much for your quick response. This means a lot to me and I really appreciate it.

My dad still does not know that his disease is a deadly one. He is an active man. I am afraid, if he gets to know that he has cancer and that cannot be cured, he will go into depression and leave all his hopes. I really don’t want that to happen. But I understand that it is important for him to know about his illness. I told him about it not in detail. I did not tell him that his cancer has reached to the advanced stage and it cannot be cured and he has only few months left. He will shatter if I tell him this directly. I know him very well he is a strong man but in this case I am still not very sure. I am afraid, if he starts thinking that he is not going to survive his health will go further down and whatever medicines he is taking will not effectively since he will lose all his hopes.

As far as I know him, he will refuse chemotherapy and would prefer going for other alternatives such as homeotherapy. I have spoken to a homeopathy doctor in Kolkata (quite famous) and told me that he will definitely try and arrest his cancer. He was honest enough to tell me that he cannot cure his cancer given the stage and his age. However he will be able to arrest the growth of the virus. Hence, it would help him feel better and there will be very less pain. He also told me that if this medicine works fine on him it may also increase his life expectancy. When all the doctors gave me no hope, I found a ray of hope from this doctor. I want to save my father from all the pains that chemo gives. If through this medicine he finds solace I would be more than happy to go with it.

I will look forward to your suggestion

I have stage 4 metastic PC.  I am 63 years old and have been taking chemo since last May.  I am lucky because I do fine with the chemo.  I was using three different kinds of chemo, 5FU, Gemzar and Cisplatin but now they have cut it back to using just Gemzar and 5FU.  The chemo has worked good.  I just had my last CT scan and my cancer has remained stable.  I only have 2 small lesions showing in the liver.  I hope there is something else they can do to help the lesions in the liver disappear.  God Bless You!!!  Marty

Hi,

I just read about your father. Sorry to hear that. I know a good doctor in Ayurved who is treating and bringing good life to pancreatic cancer patients. There was a relative who has a last stage cancer was given only 2-3 months to live and this is before 2 years. He is going ok and his disease seems to be stable.

My father was diagnosed with pancreas cancer adenocarcinoma in January but we were lucky to catch it early and did surgery he is currently taking treatment under same doctor in Dehradun.

His name: Balendu Prakash.

His website is www.padaav.com

wont hurt to call them if they can give some more days to your father. All the best and i can really understand what u are going through.

Marty, you really DO sound like a miracle.

I'm brand new here. My wife just diagnosed with metastatic Pancreatic cancer.

Marty, wondering if you take anything extra or alternative to help you along?

Thanks in advance.

Many thanks for your response. I really appreciate your concern and time. I would like to inform you that we have started giving him homeopathy treatment for PC. The Doctor told us they will be able to arrest the symptoms if he responds well to the medicines. It’s been a week and I think he is responding well to the medicines. As suggested by the doctor, we will go for another blood test and CT next month to see if there is any change. My fingers crossed!
