colon cancer spread to liver stage IV: is there any diet that can help with conventional treatment?

My father today was diagnosed with metastesis in liver indication stage IV and the oncologist thinks it is likely have started from the colon since we have a family history of the disease.  He has always been so fit and healthy, the news side-swiped all of us.  My parents do not speak good English, so I have to be their primary support for both treatment phase and research to emotional rock.  For now I find it very hard to come to terms with it.

They are admitting him tomorrow to do more tests on him to confirm diagnosis so they can start the chemo asap.  I've read and heard that some diets can not only boost the energy level to deal with chemo, but also help the treatment.  Does anyone know or experienced this?

How long should he be fasting prior to chemo to protect the healthy organs?

Hi Bonzai,  your use of the word "side-swiped" is perfect because you are right that is how it feels.  My husband was the same fit and healthy up until diagnosis. First in 2010 and recurrance in January of this year (confined to Mets to the liver).  The best book I have found is called "Anti-cancer: A way of life" by Dr. David Servan. My husbands Tumor marker, with the foods suggested by this book and the chemo. dropped to normal levels in 3 months with a dramatic reduction in spots on his liver.  It is very informative and easy to read and understand. I strongly suggest you download or buy this book right away. It was actually given to me by a doctor friend of mine. Keep in mind that most Oncologists are just that. They don't think anything else works except for the medicine. There is a lot of evidence to the contrary especially in relation to organic foods. Work the foods in this book, have him drink Alkaline water ( alot of health food stores carry it--called ph water). It will help him stave off chemo side effects and protect his other organs.  I know this is a rough time for you but empower yourself and your Dad with this great book. I am so gald my friend shared it with me. Let me know how you and your dad are doing. Do you know what kind of chemo or surgery? Stay strong.

I feel i am in the boat as you are. My dad was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer and spread to his liver. He had a tumor in his colon and was removed. Now recovering from surgery. Oncologist says he is currently not a good candidate for chemo now. We are exploring other options right now. My parents don't speak English and don't drive, so I have abandoned my job and my studies. I read somewhere that fasting 48 hrs prior helps. We are currently taking Chinese herbal medicine that is suppose to give you energy, help immune system. Just started taking medicine two days ago. You and your family are in my prayers.

Hi,

My prayers are with you! Please try Dr Budwig's Diet. In addition, a lot of positive thinking, meditating etc...What part of the US you live in?

You may want to get in touch with the hospital in TX that Dr Burzynski leads...Good luck!!!!

Best of luck!
