My husband is about 30 lbs underweight and cannot put any back on. He has his second injection of sandostatin this week....but, meanwhile...any suggestions? We consume the carbs sparingly because simple sugars feed cancer cells...I know this type is different, but, still nervous. Of course, its the carbs that help put weight on...does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks so much Robin

Boy I wish someone would post an answer to this one. I've consistently lost 1/2 lb a month since 2006 I started out at 126 lbs....I am 5'7" and currently am 87 lbs. I try to avoid sugars and fat and stick with the carcinoid diet avoiding tyramine. I am sure that I won't die from carcinoid but will croak from malnutrition! I'm a picky eater anyway and taking my sugar and fats away is a problem. It's hard to gain weight on nonfat, sugar-free food ! Anyone else have this problem? Thanks for listening, Rhonda

a few things he is doing to keep his nutrient energy levels up....for years we have used a couple of powdered whole food supplements...Barleygrass, Beets and Carrots. Along withsome other high power supplements he feels pretty good. I was keeping him off all sugars....yeah, right...I give up. He  is eating like he always did, burgers, fries...ect...bad, bad boy! But, he has not read any of the carcinoid info and I think that has helped with attitude and overall feeling good. This stuff is so strange....

I take pancreatic enzymes (3 creon) before eating anything but I still get diarrhea...the floating poop! There is very little that I eat that doesn't cause this. I met with the carcinoid nutritionist that works with dr Woltering and she suggested rice and dry baked potato. I really do try to be somewhat compliant but doubt I eat more than 600 calories a day. I have marinol for appetite stimulation as I seldom feel hungry. Marinol is something I hate to take because of the euphoric feeling that comes with it so I don't take very often. I always had a good shape and now I hate looking in the mirror and seeing this skeleton. The only alternative that I see is to have TPN where you are fed thru a vein and it bypasses the gut. This can have a huge list of problems though. My size 00 pants I have altered as they are too big for me. Just wish they had a magic pill that would take the diarrhea away and let some of the food and nutrition stick! I miss eating chocolate more than anything.
