Abiraterone and Salvestrols

Hi - my husband has been prescribed Abiraterone for his very advanced prostate cancer (done chemo, radiotherapy, etc). Unfortunately we just missed out on a trial, so it's going to cost us Australian $3,700 a month.

Two questions:

1. Is it possible to get Abiraterone any cheaper? (We can just afford it, but we will have to move house, and I don't want to disrupt him at the end.)

2. Is it beneficial or harmful to take Salvestrols at the same time as Abiraterone?

Thank you

Caroline

Abiraterone is expensive, but that is the price you have to pay for a drug that has been through extensive clinical trials to show that it works against advanced prostate cancer. The price is fixed by the manufacturer so it is unlikely that you will find a cheaper price.

Salvestrols will be beneficial and will complement Abiraterone therapy since they work by different mechanisms. Salvestrols and Abiraterone make a powerful combination and should work well together. The recommended dose of salvestrols in this combination is 3 capsules (6000 points) daily.

Thank you very much, Professor Potter - I will report progress. I hope that he is not too far gone, and that we will be able to become two of your most ardent supporters :).

Yes I just noticed it. Don't knwo why its gone..

I just make list about deatiled treatment that I give for my mom for this 2 years. It's important to me to list it detailed before I add salvestrol and it become part of her daily regime for The longest period of time. so I hope you can help me to make sure if its safe and doesn't interfere with any of my mom's treatment .

That's an awful lot of money to pay for something that probably will not work. That's not much of a treatment option. There's far more to a good cancer (prostate cancer) treatment than inhibiting ONE enzyme. There are thousands of enzymes at work in all cells. For $3700, I could treat you for 3 months, and give you your money back if you were not cancer-free in that time.

It is an awful lot of money, but when it's the final option, then it feels as if there is no choice.

Thank you for your offer :) - have you been through 20 years of clinical trials that tell me that my husband will have an average of 4 months extra?

That's the price you have to pay for a drug that has been through extensive clinical trials to show that it works? How well does it actually work? It dosn't sound that impressive in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. "Chemo" works too! It actually improves survival by 3%.

I've no idea how well it actually works. I'm no chemist, and all I 'know' is what I have read on the Internet, and what my doctors have told me.

From my reading, I thought that the Journal of Clinical Oncology thought quite well of Abiraterone. Can you point me to an article that I can understand then?

We were doing Chemo for palliative reasons, and it certainly worked for that.
