I feel like I have been given a death sentence today.

I am new to this board and to cancer as a whole. I was hospitalized with pneumonia in March. A cat scan was done of my lungs and a tumor was found along with 3 lymph nodes involved as well.It was biopsied and I was told that I have Stage 4 lung Cancer and I also have a secondary cancer. I am going for a PET Scan and an MRI tomorrow so the primary tumor associated with the secondary cancer can be found. I asked the Dr. to cut the cancer out of my lung, my logic being if it isn't in my body it can't kill me. He explained to me that if he cut it out the cutting it out will kill me. I asked him under worst case scenario how much time I had left and his answer was "You need to put your affairs in order NOW" So that also decreased my hope. I am in schock and I am truly afraid. I don't know what the future holds but I hope I have several months to a year before I have to die, and yes the DR. told me I will not survive this. I am so confused. Thanks for listening.Jane

I am so sorry that you were told this Jane. Bad news is never fun to hear about and sometimes the doctors need to learn how to break the news to people a little more gently it seems. Have you gotten a second opinion? the doctor who told you this is he a php? or is he an oncologist? did he offer you radiotreatment or chemo? how old are you? I hope you have someone there who can comfort you. please try to get your bearings and think about everything he told you. I will pray for you and that perhaps there are some hopes and chances that there is something more that can be done to help you....kitty

I met many people who had been told this same thing, but went to Cancer Treatment Center of America where they were evaluated and given hope.  It never hurts to get a second evaluation!  No one, and I mean no one, can say when or how long you'll live.  That is one of CTCAs beliefs!

I am so sorry.

We wemt with my mom today and her report was not good at all.  When this started a month or so ago the cancer was contained in the lungs and now most of the lymph nodes in the checst are now included.  My mom was a trooper about the news, but I could not move when the  meeting was over I knew she was sick in my heart, but my mind jut could not wrap my hands around what he was saying.  I totally lost it which I am told that you have to do that from time to time.

Hi Jane, My sister has the exact same thing as you. We live in Florida and i came on here looking for some information to try to help her or anyone that has this condition. Today I found out she gets a chemo port installed next week. I'm desparate to help her or you or anyone that has this. If i find any good information I will share it with you here. God Bless you! Sincerely, Skip Larsen
