Unfortunately, it is the nature of the beast, in can remain dormant for years and then raise it ugly head. I have been fighting this beast (RMRCC) for 22 years, in Feb of 2011I I received almost the same diagnosis, CT showed several “unknown artifacts” in the Subclavian, Hilar lymph nodes and in the left adrenal gland. Just love the radiologist’s descriptions don’t you”.
My Onc sent me for a Tranesophageal Endoscopic Ultrasound-guided Fine-needle Aspiration, the result of the tissue analysis was consistent with metastasis of renal cell carcinoma in 4 to 6 Subclavian, Hilar lymph nodes.
Additionally I had a CT Guided Fine-needle Aspiration of left adrenal gland the result was tissue consistent with metastasis of renal cell carcinoma.
When we got the results I met with my Onc after a discussion we decided that the best action was to seek a Thoracic surgeon’s opinion as to the feasibility of surgery for the Subclavian, Hilar lymph nodes. Also a Urologist as to the best coarse for the Adrenal tumor (I had had a radical right Nephrectomy which included the right adrenal gland.
After examining the CT’s and reviewing the rest of the data The Thoracic surgeon’s opinion (two of them) was that it was too dangerous to surgically remove the lymph nodes.
My initial reaction was looks like I finally lost.
One of the Thoracic surgeon’s suggested that I contact a Radiology Oncologist that was familiar with “Cyber-Knife” technology which is NOT CONSIDERED AS A USUAL PROCEDURE FOR RCC. After several diagnostic procedures, I underwent 14 Cyber-Knife treatments 4 for the adrenal and 10 for the Subclavian, Hilar lymph nodes.
The last 3 ct scans have showed no visible tumors of the Subclavian, Hilar lymph nodes and only scar tissue verified by another Fine-needle Aspiration of left adrenal gland. So it looks like the Holy Spirit is not done with me.
I also take Sutent.
