Today my husband has a rash all over chest... I gave him Benadryl and made him take shower, and pulled all steri strips off... The Benadryl helped...and calamine lotion, according to instructions,,, he is allergic to kiwi, and I read, it is common, as latex comes from the same gum tree... My husband had real bad watery eyes yesterday, it appears it's all symptoms... I called his visiting RN, an will take him to ER if he gets worse... Does anyone have any experience with this? We see surgeon Monday...

Hi

I am on this site currently because my Dad has EC.  But I had Thyroid cancer 2 years ago.  I do have a latex allergy and notified them before surgery.  After surgery, I had a very severe burn on my neck and upper chest where they had used drapes sheets with adhesive during surgery.  I notified the surgeon and he was going to contact the manufacture.  I am sure it was latex, I am unable to be in the sun now, the burn was terrible.  I did not have a rash but everyone reacts in a different way.

Hope this info helps

Thank you, Ive read so much about latex allergies..I took my husband to the emrgency room on Saturday,,100 miles away from his surgeon, the ER doc said it was a virus?? My husband complained of Shortness of breath..they did nothing, he also has a cough and wheeze ( no blood work, no chest X-ray). I would have been better calling 911, an EMT, could have treated him better... Tomorrow, we see surgeon, wait until he hears, how wonderful ER was..and the wonderful advise nurses, would not call surgeon, or on call surgeon,l. The rash is at neck area, all over feeding tube, and belly incision...but I'm worried about anaphlastic shock..??? I've been up for three days giving him Benadryl every four hours.. Of course it started Friday at five pm... I'm sorry about your burn, there are so many chemicals, we are exposed too??? And I'm sorry about your dad having EC cancer, how is he doing?? sorry, so frustrated :(...
