My husband will be starting nexavar tomorrow and I have read messages on this board about the side effects. My question is how long do the hand and foot sores last or do they subside? I have read your remedies of epson salts and udderly cream. Any other suggestions? We are looking forward to the new drug in a positive way and are just trying to prepare outselves. Thanks for all the information you have provided so far. This message board is worth it's weight in gold. God Bless each and everyone of you for sharing, taking the time to respond to questions and just being there for each other.

Nexavar Hand and Foot Sores

Dear Mary: Having just come off of the Nexavar treatment I can tell you that each patient is different. I have heard of severe hand and foot sores but I have also hear mostly of mild to medium side effects. I personally had virtually no hand and foot symptoms. The worst condition that I experienced was a slight tingling of my fingers. That was it! My worst side effect for me was in the fact that I became fatigued fairly easily and that my appetite suffered somewhat but for the most part, I went through the treatment side-effect free. As I said, everyone is different and I'm afraid that you will just have to wait and see how your husbad will react to the drug. Either way, you will find the strength to deal with it. Good luck to you and your husband. We will keep you in our prayers. Ron

Thanks Ron

Thanks Ron I appreciate you replying to my message. I am glad to hear you did so well with the side effects. Are you off the drug now? We are excited, anxious and hopeful. We saw his Oncologist today and got the medication which he will start on Monday. 400mgs per day. I guess we have anxiety as he is the first patient in our facility to receive this drug. Our Oncologist was more active in the sutent trial and this is her first patient on nexavar so it is a learning curve for her as well. She is good so we will wait and see. How are you doing? I hope all is well and you are maintaining. What more can we ask for. We will keep you in our prayers as well. Thanks again Mazzy

Side Effects

Hi! I started taking a full dose of Nexavar and within a short time I was in the hospital because I had blisters on my feet, sores in my mouth and a severe rash. At the current time I am down to one-pill a day. My last CT-Scan showed my tumors were shrinking. My Doctor told me that it was his observation that patients who developed side effects were the group that benefited the most.

Happy is probably correct!! While I had very few side effects on both the Nexavar and Sutent drugs, my response was minimal at best. I am presently off of all treatments. Perhaps we should be all hoping for moderate to severe side effects. It sure beats the alternative it seems. Ron

Thanks Again Ron

We are optimimstic. My husband was on intron A (interferon) and kept taking reactions to the drug. He went off of it 11 months ago and received no treatment until Nexavar came out. I do wish you well and you will be in my prayers. My husband was fine and felt great with no medication so who knows? It is hard to say what is right or wrong to do but we have to put it in the hands of the higher power and trust what will be will be. Take care and hope to hear from you again.

Thanks Happy

My husband is starting Nexavar today. He is taking a full dose. Two pills twice a day so we will wait and see what happens. How long did it take before you started getting the blisters? We will be optimistic and hope for the best but like you said maybe the side effects are an indication things are working. God Bless
