Lung and now Colon cancer

Hello everyone.  It's been a while since i last posted.  My mom and dad have moved up to MA to live with me and my family.  Things were going well...Dad's new oncologist is wonderful and had so much more hope than the dr in FL...I just wish they had gotten up here sooner.  Dad has been complaing of stomache discomfort and difficulty with his bowels. Well, he had a colonoscopy today and they found a 3cm mass.  I don't know what to think now.  He seemed to be doing so well...tolerating the chemo for the lung cancer...now what??? Do they treat him for colon cancer too??  They sent the biopsy to pathology so we will know for sure in a week and a half I guess.  Does lung cancer metastasize to the colon?  I don't remember reading that anywhere.  I guess it's possible...either way it is scary.  I know he is depressed now.  We try to engage him but he refuses to do anything but watch tv.  :(  My heart is breaking.

I'm so sorry to hear of the new mass. When my mom's lung cancer spread to her brain and after all treatment failed, I literally saw all hope leave her with one breath. She declined very rapidly after that. When she was actively dying, she wouldn't even look at or acknowledge me. It was so hard, but I know that (as a parent) it is harder for them than it is for us. We don't ever want to leave our children. Just be there for him. All you can do is be there. Love him. Let him know you love him. Each and every day. Always say it. If you think you've said it too much, say it again. God bless you and your family. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss my mom.
