My brother, Bruce, was diagnosed with Cholangio in October, 2009. He is my hero, since he has fought and awesome battle with this disease. Bruce is a Type A real estate investor, so we were not surprised at how he approached this challenge.
Almost 3 years into the fight, his tumors continue to come back. Half his liver was removed, tumors moved to the lungs and spine, more chemo, more supplements, but he has not given up. His CA-199 has been under 33 for some time and his liver markers remain close to range.
His sister-in-law and brother-in-law (Tina and Frank) came up with an idea to use Bruce's favorite activity, golf, to make a difference for others. This fantastic idea gas become a foundation (started in 2011) which is working to sponsor a chair at the University of Pittsburgh for liver and cholangio research.
In order to accomplish this, we have two years to raise $2.5M. I don't have the exact numbers, but I think we are at about $1.5M already. The second and final golf tournament is coming up in August, 2012. If you would like to donate to the fund, please visit our website athttp://www.brucehaney.org.
It's been a rough battle, but I hope that our work can mean something for those that come after us.

I am so thankful for the support of this website and our doctors at UPMC. It's been a challenge, but I know that it gas made us all stronger.
Thanks,
Brian
