chemo help/ what to expect

Hi

My partner starts chemo next week.

How scrupiously clean does the house have to be? I have heard varying responses.

Sorry for my naivety, but will he most likely experience vomiting, diarehha etc etc.

And be wearing gloves etc etc.

I have no idea what to expect so I can be FULLY prepared.

I'm thinking he should be at his moms home, which is cleaner/ warmer than ours even?

thanks

Lisa

Sorry about this late reply but I just saw this. I know when My dad was going through chemotherapy he was always tired all the time and with the type of cancer he was very weak. He had no nausea or vomiting but for the first week or two his bowels were very loose. Which is one of the reasons he was donated a portable potty. He used it mostly in the bathroom to get up because the toilets were too low. He only presented with two other symptoms from the chemotherapy his taste was off. It didnt matter how much flavor it had he always said it was tasteless or metallic tastins. The nurse told me that sometimes eating from Metal silverware can set off the taste buds to she suggested him eating off of plastic silverware. The only other side effect was the thinning of his hair. I was told that everyone presents differently with side effects so you really dont know what to espect. But as far as home goes yes a cleaner home will be nice and maybe keep an extra blanket in case its chilly in your home. I do have to stress though ANYONE SICK even a small cough make sure they use a face mask when visiting or just tell them not to come ata ll. Hope this helps you

Hi LisaJay

I didn't see where the thread started. What kind of cancer does your partner have?

I had tonsil concer, I received chemo and radiation. Radiation was worse, chemo didn't affect me a lot, but vomitted just a few times. Never heard about the "keep the hosue clean" but I do know your immumne system is weak and you have to be careful around others who are sick or crowds.
