HELP: what after chemo for stage 4??

hi,my husband has had 2 cycles of chemo, first one last year (8 sessions of xeloda, eloxatin, avastin) and this year (12 sessions of 5fu, avastin and campto - but he has decreased platelets count so most of the sessions he couldnt get a full dose of chemo) now we will have a ct scan next week, the onc doesnt expect much (and by saying this he means that there is no way yet that my husband is a candidate for surgery - and surgery is the only solution) - i have asked him abt SIRT and radio frequency ablation but he said that in his case they cant performe them bcs he has a 6 cm nodule (which is z biggest one) on the liver ...i read a lot abt SIRT ,nothing said that nodules should be small...

plz help me...plzzzzz... i feel as if the onc has given up on us!! or he doesnt know much abt radiation or im just asking for the impossible!!! helppppp

Hi, I understand exactly what you are saying..its so hard but you have to be strong, I keep praying and praying and that gives me so much strength and I do my research online almost everyday for other ways to heal my father as I really dont want him to have more chemo or radiation...(he finished his chemoradiation in april '12) and he lost so much weight and still weak...but slowly getting better day by day by the grace of God

Been giving him supplements ( see my profile, he's taking double of his mushrooms supplements now and once he finished 'My community' planning to giving him Ahcc instead and findout which is better for him) and a glass of carrots +apple + beet juice everyday, coconut water. Also super green drink since we dont get many good organic vegetables here.

Always think positive and never give up, I know it hurts so much but if you try to stay positive and and read positive stories you will feel better and not to forget ..prayer.

If the can't get chemo anymore then you will see where it leads him, a few months with out chemo, everyone is different but he is stage 4, and 6cm tumor,  My husband was the same and he was 4 yrs and 3 months before he passed.  He had everything possible to help but in the end there was no more.

I just wished I was more prepared to realize he was not going to get better,  I was sure we would because he was such a fighter, but don't forget everyone is different.  I will pray for you , and speak open and frank with your Dr's and tell them of your fears and what can be done, or is there not anything ?   I didn't want to hear there is nothing else we can do.  But they were really be kind. they did not want  to see me try to do everything and anything, so I had to help my love get ready to leave, I had to be strong for both of us.  I will pray for you.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer with mets in the liver and wide spread lymph node involvement. Following surgery, the surgeon told me that I had 3 to 9months to live. That was in Feb 2008. I then had chemo, Folfiri +avastin which effectively killed off the liver tumours and reduced other mets. Since then I have had, Folfox then Xeloda both with Avastin, After a 9 month break I went back to Xeloda thenFolfiri then Folfox. I still have mets on the outside of my lung but I live a full life so don't give up. It is possible to control cancer.

Hi jinane, I would sincerelynsuggest you get another opinion. Plmhave the scan reports and scan CDs handy including all the blood work reports,what chemo he has been on , with details and dates etc. Try to put all this on CDs and seek out help in other countries like USA or Germany. You will have to courier the Docs all this and sek their opinion. Pl get on the internet and start contacting renowned liver surgeons and other oncologists. I think that should help. In Germany pl look at delcath . It is chemo directly to liver without much side effects , www.delcath.com . This is not offered in USA at the moment , only Germany, and Australia. Check out univ of Frankfurt and a dr vogl. Hope this helps Shitul

hi ... updating my husband's status...

yesterday we had a ct scan... the radiologist told us that he can say that the liver tumors has slightly decreased in size... "slightly"... the biggest one (6 cms) is still the same, but the smaller ones had slightly decreased in size and some of them had disappeared...so the tumors are under control...

but PLEASEEEEE isnt there any methode that can decrease these tumors ... his first cycle of chemo that was done last year deacresed these tumors by 40% (after chemo his cea was 14)... now only 30 to 40% of his liver is covered with spots... this round of chemo didnt do a lot of progress because he couldnt get a full dose because his platelets was always low( and his cea is 90- because after the first cycle of chemo he was on avastin break for 6 month and his cea increased to 350 before his onc decided to put him back on chemo again)...

please tell me is there any procedure that can highly decrease these tumors on the liver?!?!?!?!?

and is this a good or a bad sign that tumors r not decreasing???

Have you looked into chemo-embolization?
