clinical trials for a vaccine for pancreatic cancer.

John Hopkins is conducting a clinial trial on a vaccine for the treatment of pc. Does anyone out there know more about it? How does one get to participate in it? Is the trial on this vaccine being conducted anywhere else. What type of candidates are they looking for - I mean as far as the pc staging goes.

I read that the vaccine is in the experimental stage, and will be submitted to the FDA for approval soon - I hope. I think what it does is differientiate between cancer cells and normal cells and destroy them. I'm not an MD, but that is my take on it.

Anyone have any more info about this vaccine? Let's hope is able to help those of us who are dealing with or have loved ones who are dealing with this terrible disease.

Would appreciate any and all feedback!

God Bless us all!

Hi

Just go to the Hopkins site under "research" or to NCI under "Pancreatic Cancer trials" and all the info is there. Inclusions and exclusions. .Hopkins is not the only one testing.

When I saw you posting I went to the John Hopkins website.  My mom has Stage IV and I am looking for anything that will hhelp her at this point.  According to what I read you have to had a a successful whipple prodecure to be eliblgle.  My mother's procedure was not successful in removing the tumor so she would not be eliable.  they are getting ready to open a new study,  I would contact the hospital and see what they say.

Apply for your Mom anyway. They may have something else to offer, like a different trial that would be beneficial to her. I didn't get as far as you did. I couldn't find the trials. Boy does that make me feel old, and I'm only in my 40's!. I don't know yet whether my Whipple was successful. At first I was told it was but then after chemo and chemo/radiation my CA-19-9 went way up rather than down and I guess that can only mean the worst - that there is cancer in there. I haven't gotten any answers yet. I don't understand the other new procedure IRE, but have you looked into it?

The person at Hopkins is Beth- onnerbe@jhmi.edu, But call Hopkins because this one is for after resection. They have more clinical trials. Or, Google NCI -hit Clinical trials and fill out the type etc and all trials will show. Same doctor Dr. Le is doing one called GVAC. Trial number is NCT 01417000, just Google number it should come up.

On the Hopkins site there are  also numbers to call for just consultations, clinical testing.too .

We had I.R.E. and are still here. It's also referred to as Nanoknife. Google Nanoknife for more info. There's info on this site about it too. Basically it's a procedure involving probes that electrify a tumor to kill the cells. The tumor is not removed but shocked to death. It can be done by a surgeon or Interventional Radiologist and is great for tumors to close to veins and arteries. Drs Watkins, Martin surgeons, Moeslein Interventional Radiologist. There are many more out there but those are the ones I think of first. There's more info on line about "Nanoknife Locations" Look up AngioDynamics they are the machine maker and they have most of the research papers. Good Luck

Hi Sheann, I didn't read ahead so you may have already been given this info. As I was looking at J Hopkins site for how to sign up it made it sound like if you could find a local oncologist to manage they would mail the vaccines. Hope this is correct because I have no way to get together without really putting my out too much.
