Iam 32 years old. I went for a breast ultrasound recently and came to know , there are 2 lumps in my left breast. (3 days prior to my ultrasound i was having pain in my left breast). The doc is of the opinion that these could be(probability) fibroadenomas. Doc has asked me to go for follow up after 6 months. But I have a question. How can the Doc be sure that it is Fibroadenoma without further testing? Secondly, I keep getting the pain occasionally in my lest breast. Is it that fibroadenomas are painful? Please offer some advice to me on this. Thank you.

Please get a second opinion.  If your gut tells you that you should not wait 6 months, then go with your gut feeling.  The best that could happen is it will give you a peace of mind that it is nothing.  If you dont get that peace of mind you will not be able to rest at ease.  I'm sorry I couldnt tell you if fibroadenomas are painful or not because I had found a lump and it turned out to be a tumor but it did cause me discomfort.  It was small enough that I was told I shouldn't have even been able to feel it. But I did.  Please get another opinion.  You will need that peace of mind.  I pray it all works out for you.  May God bless!

I had a lump under my nipple that was painful also, I have cancer in my family so the drs checked and found out I had Ductal carcinoma which is cancer of the milkducts and I was stage 1-2 grade 3 which is the most aggressive type. when they did the masectomy they found the tumer 3mm from my muscle lining, so I got in there just in time. dont wait 6 months, def go get another opinion because depending if its cancer or not 6 months may give a positive tumer time to invade and become terminal! Sorry to be so harsh and upfront but time may not be something you have alot of. Good luck and be strong, you are woman, roar girl!

I went for second follow up with a clinic. I got my Brest scanned again. The 2 lumps have not grown nor have they shrunk. The doctor is 90% sure that it is Fibroadenomas not malign. However he suggested , since it hurts I could get them removed and these could be sent to Lab for further testing. Thank you so much for offering me help.

Malignant breast tumors are NOT painful. The radiologist can tell from the ultrasound and mammogram if these lumps are suspicious.  If you want 110% peace of mind have the doctor send you for an MRI of your breast.  It is a simple screening, and it will see anything the size of a pin head. Push the doctor, he will send you for the MRI b/c of the breast pain.  Your medical insurance has to cover it.

Thank you so much for your advice. I really need to get this sorted. I am in a kind of confused state of mind as of now. I have 2 small adorable daughters. I just want to make myself 100% sure that this thing is not cancer.

Unfortunately, breast tumors CAN be painful.I had constant pain in my left breast and was diagnosed as having a triple negative metaplastic(not metastatic) tumor with a sarcoma. However, I will say that the mammogram and the ultrasound were suspicious and I was sent for a biopsy. I have also communicated with others with this diagnosis and they also experienced pain. I delayed getting a mammogram for several months after the pain started thinking that it couldn't be breast cancer because of the pain---I was wrong.

Get a second opinion, by all means.  You can google the fibroadenomas and learn more about it.  When you go for a second opinion, ask the doctor to submit you to MRI.  There are also  times doctor will perform the biopsy just to make sure that growth is not malignant.  Do everything possible to completely rule out possibility of malignant tumors.

Wishing you the best of luck, get goint on this immediately, don't waste time.

Don't wait - get answers now. I had a painful malignancy at the age of 34 but my doctor put me off and I was diagnosed at 36 with stage III IDC. Not to scare you but I am now stage IV in liver and brain. Breast cancer CAN be painful. Find out now so you can catch it early if it is BC.
