Leukemia

I was wondering if anyone has had a Oncologist say that they will have have Leukemia in the future? I will be seeing a different Oncologist tomorrow. I was sent to the first one for a bone marrow biopsy. All he did was blood work and I was told that he thought it was a infection, but he could see some things that told him I may have it in the future. It was not a infection. It had been ruled out twice, and then I had a Nuclear Scan that showed no infections. I asked him 3 times to do a biopsy, but he came up with a reason not to. I went back to my Family Doc and asked about a second opinion. He pulled up his report to refresh his mind, and at the bottom the Oncologist said he had gone to the nth degree to get me to have a biopsy, but I refused. Now 5 months have been wasted. Did you see a hematologist or just a GP? You would need to have a CBC with differential, and I think they might get an idea there is something wrong with your blood other than low iron. You would then need to see a hematologist and have a bone marrow biopsy to be diagnosed. I was misdiagnosed for at least a year before my appt. with a hematologist. Hopefully you just have a bad doctor that doesn't have a clue.

He was both a hematologist and Oncologist. My Family doctor sent me to him to do a bone marrow biopsy, but he did not think that I needed to have it just yet. The wait and see approach. He diagnosed me with a unknown infection. Blood work that I had done twice, had ruled out infection, but could not rule out Cancer. My Doc had a Nuclear Scan done looking for any infections. They found none. I have all of the symptoms, night sweats, fevers, no appetite, losing weight, etc. That was the reason my Doc was trying to find out what was going on. MY WBC count was over 20,000, twice above normal. He came from a Mayo Clinic. He said that everything pointed to Leukemia. I saw a second Doctor yesterday, my Doc requested a biopsy. He walked in, shook my hand and said that I did not have Cancer. He agreed with the first doctor and said he would not do the biopsy. He did more blood work and asked me to come back in two weeks. They drew blood, but I will not see him again. I am frustrated, that is why this is so long, it has been going on since Nov. The first doctor did say without the biopsy, all he could say was infection, but from what he saw, I would have it in the future. I know that I have had over $6,000.00 worth of blood work done. Like I said, the first doctor said in his report that he had gone to nth degree to get me to have the biopsy, but I refused. We asked him 3 times why not do it and be sure. It was him that refused to do the biopsy. Yes, I live in a a rural part of the country. I have to go 2 hours to see these doctors. Most do not care, or have a clue. I had a heart attack, at least I was sure of it. I saw a local Cardioligist who did the tests and told me for 9 months that there was nothing wrong with my heart. I had a second heart attack, went to Knoxville, TN, and I had 6 blocked arteries. Two were 100% blocked, 3 were 60 to 70% blocked and 1 only 40% blocked. They told me that I was lucky to be alive. The surgeon said surgery was to risky, but after 7 days of tests, he did do by-pass surgery. I was 56 then, and 61 now and have not had any problems with my heart, but there was damage done due to the fact that I had 2 heart attacks.

I have learnt you must take your health problems into your own hands and keep pushing along for answers. Frustrating that one has to do this but worth it.

I agree, and I have been doing that since last Nov. So much so that I thought a ER Doc was going to hit me. I had a friend take me, he saw the same thing, and jumped in front of him. My Cardiologist had called and asked me to come to the ER and he would have the papers done to have me admitted. He was aware of that, did not even do a EKG, and refused to admit me. I live 2 hours away from the hospital. When I reminded him of why I was there, he said I was there only because of what I had told my Cardiologist. When I asked him was I suppose to lie, that set him off, he started at me, then walked out. I filed a complaint, nothing happened.

Hi, I'm curious.   Do you live close enough to go to a Cancer Treatment Center of America location?   I have been seeing them for over a year now and they are amazing.   If you call them, they will fly you and a guest in for your initial visit.   I trust them completely and they are wonderful people.   Give them a shot.    http://www.cancercenter.com/

No, not close to any of them. Do they pay to fly you there? I know that they are one of the best Cancer Treatment around. Do you have to be diagnosed with Cancer ? The two Oncologist that I have seen will not come out and say I have Leukemia, but all the blood work points to it. My GP came from one of the Mayo Clinics. He wanted to send me to one, but it is over 900 miles way.

Hi David, Strange that all that can happen in a country like the USA. I live in France and am 66 years old. I must agree with Jenny who said " I have learnt you must take your health problems into your own hands and keep pushing along for answers.", but more important is a good relationship with your family doctor, who can undertake all the steps necessary for any treatment you need. Before being diagnosed with a full blown leukaemia (AML) I had 3 biopsies and consequent treatments with very expensive medication. After the 3rd biopsy they decided I needed an urgent chemo therapy treatment, but probably my disease was too far advanced for a conventional treatment, so they invited me to join a "research programme", sponsored by the government and 2 laboratories, which I gratefully accepted. That was in May 2011. The treatment was harsh and painful, but I survived. The medical team in this specialised cancer institution was extraordinary. Today I am on a 3 monthly check at the hospital, but recovery is slow and with a lot of undesirable side effects. No financial problems as the French social security guarantees payment for a total treatment and even pays transportation (taxi) cost to the hospital. Good luck to you for the future. william

Hey William, I hope that you will continue to get better, you will be in my prayers. The Family Doctor thing has been a problem. The one I went to for 31 years passed away in Feb. of this year. He could get anything done at the drop of a hat. He had his own practice, so I had to find a new doctor. I Live in a town of 1,200, and that wasn't easy to do. I ended up seeing a new doctor that grew up up here and had just finished his internship at Mayo Clinic. Our relationship has been rocky at times, but I do believe he is doing his best to help me. I am 61 and I told him that I did not expect to ever have the kind of relationship with him that I had with my other doctor. He was the one that thought there was something else going on that had been missed. I had some tests done before Doc died, but he never saw them. He ran blood work, my WBC was over twice what is normal, and the labs said they could rule out every thing but Cancer. He repeated it a few months later, and got the same results. It seems to me that the specialist don't know him, and are not taking it serious. He has asked two Oncologist to do a bone marrow biopsy, but they want to wait and see. He claims if he orders it do be done, the insurance will not pay. I Am going to check that out for myself. They have been very good to me so far, and have helped me in the past with other doctors. I have a lot of other health problems, and I just want to know what is going on now. According to what they find, if the ever do, I will consider if it is worth going through any treatment. I have Kidney Disease and they say I can not take Chemo. It is very frustrating just waiting for the next test, and waiting on the results. Again, I wish you the best, and thanks for sharing.

Why don't you go to your local health food store and ask them for advice on your condition. Everyone that is sick to read the books, Green For Like,and a book by Dr. mathias Rath, on cancer. and go to the web page , knowthecause.com . All wonderful info. Detox the body and you will be healed .
