My dads is stage IV and his CEA is way down now to a 4.8 however the tumors aren't shrinking that much on his liver. Doctor said they are going to do 2 more chemos then put him on a maintenance program.  Is it ok that the tumors aren't shrinking that much as long as numbers stay down?

Hi, I guess shrinking is good in general, but my oncologist told me that sometimes tumors become swollen when they become necrotic inside. So I suppose it's not as clear cut as I had thought. A cea value of 4.8 sounds great. After nine cycles of folfiri + avastin I had a 20% reduction of my lymph nodes and liver mets and my cea went down to 7.1. I'm considered stable on avastin maintenance treatment since late June. A few millimeters this way or that way, nothing significant. My cea is 9. Perhaps this helps you in some small way. Sincerely, Anne
