I'm also listed under "Just Stated Sutent" but I wanted those who have just started taking this meds to know how I feel. So far after 11 days, I have had very little side effects....a litle itching in my hands only....hopefully this will continue. I have 17 days left to go in this cycle and then there will be two weeks off. Please keep in touch and let me know if you are also taking this medication. Willard

I have been taking sutent now - six 28 day treatments. It is a substantial cost of $6500.00. The side affects have been minimal and the results have been a success for stage 4 RCC. My kidney and liver cancer are stable. I feel blessed that this drug was placed on the market when I was diagnosed with RCC.

The Sutent I am taking costs $260 each bill...and I'm taking one a day. Terrible price though, isn't it but so far I'm sure it is worth it. I'm on day 18 of my first cycle and not having any major side effects. So far, the most adverse effect is a few sharp stomach pains, but they don't last long. Stay away from fried foods and spicy foods like chili as I find they give me terrible heartburn at night. My minor effects have only been very slight itching of hands on occasion, a little light headedness at night and maybe a little pressure at night. Nothing serious. Guess I have to feel something. I only have 11 days left on my first cycle. Keep the faith and keep positive. I also had a small tumor behind my ear in April and that is now shrinking drastically over the past 18 days. This drug must be so very powerful....it's amazing!!!! Keep in touch and I'm also posted under the heading that has 57 messages...check it out!!!!! There are many others there who would love to chat. Hi Willard I just finished my first session on Sutent. I felt no side affects until I was on the drug for about a week. I had no trouble with my hands, but a lot of trouble with mouth soreness and taste change. I found a prescription called BMX helps to numb the mouth enough to eat and brush the teeth. I had always been a salt freak. I would add salt to everything even before I tasted it. Well---on Sutent, I can't tolerate salt! I don't salt anything. I go for my first CT scan after Sutent this Thur. Hopefully I will have good results. What strength are you taking Willard? I had to lower to 37.5m as 50m was too strong for me to handle. It lowered my blood count enough that I needed a blood transfusion. I wonder why some patients are able to handle the higher dosage while others can't. It's a mystery. Janet

This is now my second week off my first Sutent trial. Overall, the only really bad effect I had during the 28 day cycle was a bad stomach, especially during the last week. I really had to be careful about what I ate and lots of heartburn..now that I'm off the pill, my stomach is good once again. I go to see my doctor in 4 days but only a blood test is scheduled. Overall, I noticed a couple of smaller tumours that I had previous to taking the Sutent actually disappeared while I was on the drug, but in about 3 days once the treatment stopped, they were back again. Maybe it takes a couple of treatments or more to really see a big difference. I did not have any major side effects so I will no doubt be given another 28 dosage. My blood count seemed fine as well. Maybe with the lighter dose, your husband will not have any problems this time while taking this med. I wish him well. Take care now and keep the faith. Please keep in touch. Willard

Hi First it's not my husband with RCC, it's me. You must be thinking of Debbie. Anyway, went for my CT scan and blood work-up on Thur. My cancer is stable, no decrease or increase in tumor sizes.However, my blood count was low again but not low enough for another transfusion . This time they just gave me a shot of Aranesp. This drug helps the bone marrow to make more red blood cells. So now my restart on Sutent has been delayed an extra week until I have another blood test. My only side affects during my time on Sutent was sore mouth and taste change which improved after only about 4 days off the drug. Hopefully more time on Sutent will have more positive results if I can manage to keep my blood count up. So glad to hear you're doing well. Janet

I saw your message only today.(13 April 2007)

How are you now? I have "Bone Metastasis". Doctors may prescribe "SUTENT". I may have to get started soon. Please share with me your experience. I live in India. I had RCC about 3 years back.

I see that your message was posted awhile back but i figured i would check in to see how you are doing. I too may be starting Sutent next week and I am researching how other folks are doing. Please let me know.
