For all of you who are fighting this fight against cancer, I want to add info on our second level of attack. Please feel free to start with what I am posting and fact check. You will be amazed at the amount of information out there if you dig. I have a researcher personality so I like the fact-digging and am using it to help my cousin. Sometimes people who are ill are either depressed or too tired and worn out to spend hours and hours and days and days researching the way I do. I do this to help my relative but have been sharing the info via emails, to others when I hear that they have been given a cancer diagnosis. I HATE quackery and thoroughly research everything before promoting it.
I am going to START to post about Broccoli and Broccoli sprouts and the anti-cancer benefits. Research has been done on this for a long time and will floor anyone who has not heard about this...but word is getting out. EXTENSIVE research and reports have come in from Dr. Paul Tallalay at Johns Hopkins. I hope that if I post on Cancer Compass, that people will google the topic and be able to read up and learn about this for themselves. I am also communicating regularly with a local hydroponic farmer who is growing sprouts and selling them to the public. We are sharing information and hope that others are helped by it. My cousin and I will be growing our own sprouts soon, right in our homes, and eating them EVERY DAY as part of salads and sandwiches.
Here is what I have learned:
1. A chemical in broccoli and other "cruciferous" veggies has been found to prevent cancer cells from developing into cancer and actually KILLING cancer in lab experiments in lab dishes and in lab animals.
2. Cruciferous veggies are in the cabbage family. Brussel sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, radishes and several others are in this veggie family.
3. Researchers compared East Germans to West Germans in regard to cancer. The East Germans had a larger variety of fruits and veggies in their diet. West Germans did not, YET West Germans had fewer cases of cancer. The difference was that West Germans ate a LOT of cabbage.
4. Broccoli contains the most of the anti-cancer chemical glucoraphanin. Broccoli sprouts at 3-4 days old, contain the highest level of this chemical.
5. Glucoraphanin, once chewed, is affected by an enzyme called mycrosinase. The chewing activates the enzyme and turns glucoraphanin into sulforaphane. SULFORAPHANE is the cancer-fighter. Also, it is best to eat the sprouts and broccoli raw or with the full-grown broccoli, just steamed or stir-fried lightly. For a person with cancer, I'd suggested eating the sprouts to go after the cancer-killing chemical and get it into the bloodstream.
6. Scientists have found that it only takes about ONE HOUR from the time of eating the sprouts or broccoli, for the chemical to get to the cells. This fact has been published in scientific research reports.
7. Eating broccoli on a regular basis (at least once every 3 weeks) is a good cancer preventer. Our family will now be eating it once a week, bare minimum!
8. Eating 1.25 cups of fresh grown sprouts at 3-4 days old and chewing it well, will "bathe" the cells in a proven cancer killing chemical.
For starting you out on this trail, I am going to leave the links for two informative videos. I also want to say that if you dig and dig for info, as I have been doing for the past 2 months, you will find skads of scientific info and reports on this. Yesterday I was reading a report from the Dept. of Agricuture. They were citing the same reports that I have been reading and saying that they are searching out plant variieties in the broccoli family, that contain the highest level of the anti-cancer chemicals. There is a reason for this. The public, and especially people who are fighting cancer, are learning about the reports and studies. You can learn a lot by reading PubMed articles but they are written in scientific terms and hard to read at first. My husband is a research scientist (in cosmetic chemistry) and helps me a bit to understand the articles. I am now spending time looking into sources for seed and instructions on how to best sprout them. A lot of info on youtube but my hydroponic farmer friend is also helping me on this. We are both looking into buying seed with the highest glucoraphanin content.
Even though the videos talk about cancer "prevention", if you start researching the names of the two chemicals, you will find that they have SHRUNKEN existing tumors and cancer cells. It is sad but even with great research, it can take YEARS before scientific researchers are given funding (through the FDA) to do human clinical trials to prove the effectiveness on humans. WE are not going to wait for that!
Now we are stepping into Phase ii of our attack on cancer. Phase I has been the CBD drops. Phase II is the drops AND the daily broccoli sprouts into the diet (in smoothies, in salads, and in sandwiches).
