Hello,

My mother was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme with Oligodendro on April 2011. All tumor was surgically debulked on May 2011. The tumor had 3/2/1 cm. After surgery she started with the standard of treatment Radiation and Temadar (temozolomide)one month, then the Temadar alone 5 days a month for six months. She finished the treatment on March 2012. Since then no treatment was given to her.

A recurrence was detected in december 2012. The tumor has 28/23/27/mm. and the doctor said that is too small for a surgery and the best solution is to start an oncology treatment.

She has started treatment with Temadar (december 2012 – first dose, 5 days a month) and she’ll take the second dose on january. The oncolgist said me about Avastin, used for recurrent tumors, but he have not chosen that route yet because my mother responded well at Temodar after the surgery.

What do you know about Avastin? Do you know about other oncology treatments?

I think your mother needs to see a neuro-onocologist. Even the best and most experienced oncologists rarely treat glioblastoma, let alone a mixed brain cancer. Your mom's been doing exceptionally well for a GBM patient, but it's time to go to an expert.

I'll search for a "neuro-oncologist", but in my contry I don't have many opportunities and experts. Thanks for your answer.

My GBM was diagnosed Jan 11 2012; that day doc did 95% resection, plan was standard: IMRT radiation with Temodar for 6 weeks; before we could even start, they found my tumor was back, same as original size. Docs started me on Avastin that day in mid-feb, my symptoms (headaches, aphasia, balance issues) disappeared within hours & have not returned. We continue Avastin every 2 weeks, Temodar 5 days on, 23 days off, & I have the Novocure TTF device 18 hrs/day. Status now is stable: no tumor growth since starting Avastin & Novocure. Working so far, keeping my fingers crossed...

Are you taking Avastin and Temodar at the same time? The tumor disappeared or it is still there. Or it is not growing since you started Avastin? I never heard about novocure, I'll ask our oncologist about it. My mom has a half-paresis on her right arm and she can't talk. She says only some words, but in rest she has activity and is conscious. I wish you health and don't give up!

What are the side effects you have experienced from avastin and temodar? My daughter is starting on that same treatment on jan 3, and I am affraid of the side effects!! Veronica
