Rectal Canncer

Hi,
My name is Ali I want to ask you some thing about my mother detail is given below
Colostomy done 3 months ago due to abstraction
after CT scan and colon scope found adenocarcinoma in rectum
and CEA report was 82
the portion containing adenocarcinoma has been removed with open surgery
After Surgery CEA in 4.45 Normal
MRI both plain and contrast also showing normal no evidence found mean to say all is clear
No I wan to ask you that which type of thearpy is necessary for my mother
is Radiation and chemo is necessary or not

Yes Yes YES!!

I had colorectal cancer, and went thru it all.  I had no spread of the cancer, thank you Lord Jesus and Blessed Virgin!

Congrats on the CEA level, but remember this is only an indicator...not diagnostic!

Ali, you are blessed...........do seek an opinion from KU, MD Anderson or Mayo..............

Definitely take all the treatment they want to do.  She was lucky in that her cancer showed in her CEA level.  Mine didn't.  My oncologist kept telling me that when the cancer is removed and they check the pathology, there is no way that ever cell can be checked.  All it takes in one cell left in there and it will come back.  So definitely do the adjunctive chemo if it is offered.  My radiation was done before my surgery so I don't know about doing radiation after the fact.  But definitely do the chemo if your mom was staged as stage 3 or higher.  They do say that if it was staged as 1 or 2 adjunctive chemo doesn't have much benefit.

Now I want some suggestion that I have met to different onocologist but they have different opinion at this moment I am in confliction because some says chemo is necessary and some says only radiation is necessary and some others say both thearpies are necessary now I am double minded what should I do

My mom take chemo orally named (XELODA) for 1 month without any gap between and 19 rays has been done but I am in confliction kindly tell me

Ali,

I would strongly suggest that she take the max therapy....I did, its rough, but that is the way to a cure or longer life. I also took Xeloda daily and had 28 days of that plus radiation, prior to my 7 hr surgery!

Definitely the chemo (IV), I had Leukovorin, 5FU, and another drug, duh, lol.  But I am here one year later, and beginning a new life!

1 thing kindly tell me how long She Should take xeloda mean to say how many months she must take Xeloda because Radiation are near to be finished after 8 days only 8 rays are remaining so kindly suggest me

She should take it as long as her cancer doctor tells her to.......I had no problems when I took it.
