MRI results, treatment effects

So we just went to the Dr. to get the results of my husband's first MRI since radiation.  The Dr. said my husband's tumor is larger than before treamtment began (It was 6cm before treatment), but he feels the enlargement may be due to "treatment effect".  The way he explained it was basically the cells were dying, and causing "swelling".  He also said Robert still have a lot of edema (which we weren't surprised by).  So, he will continue on the decadron.  The Dr. said he will do another MRI in two months, to ensure the enlargement is due to healing and not continued growth. 

I'm thankful there is no new tumor growth in any other parts of his brain, but I still feel as if we didn't really get any real answers.

It normally takes several MRI's to determine if there is true growth.

There is no definitive way for doctors to distinguish between treatment effect and growth initially as things get pretty messy once treatment begins.

It’s a case of letting the dust settle before they can get a truly accurate reading.

Thanks Hux.  I guess I was just naive thinking we would know something definete from the MRI.  I guess, though, we really did learn SOMETHING definete, and that it there are no NEW tumors! 

We got the same response after our first MRI after treatment.  The next MRI was much clearer this time, but you never get all the information you want sadly.
