Though guidelines suggest screening starts at 50, researcher says it's premature to change them

I'm new to this site; my dad was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma on June/July 2009. He got partial gastrectomy and lived one year clean. By the 2010 the CA19.9 started increasing without any symptoms. CT scan was clean just small inflammation located where they did the surgery so he just got some drugs for the stomac. On Dec. 2011, CA19.9 reached 2000 so we did PET scan that showed one tumor of 2.5 cm, they said it was peritoneal. he started chemo. He went through two different treatments since then, each time, the marker goes down for the first 3 cycles then it goes up again. The 3rdtreatment, it was Folfiri which he didn’t tolerate. They did the first injection. The 2ndwhich was after 2 weeks, he got a very bad diarrhea and vomiting, so they stopped the treatment, and he was without treatment for 2 months now. He started having back pain but all the CT scan scyntigraphy did not show anything else than the initial tumor, so he was taking anti-inflammatory and pain killer which worked for the pain but recently he got jaundice. Blood test showed CA19.9 is at 9000 and ultrasound showed dilatation of the connection between gall bladder and liver and pancreas.MRI showed the same thing but the tumor is now 6 cm.The Drs argued if the tumor is at the head of the pancreas or just around and because of its size it’s blocking the ducts.They all agreed that they need to open up these ducts, they said they will not do surgery, they are going to use a technique like endoscopy, they will introduce the camera and the instrument needed through the mouth. Did anyone here have any input about the technique or tumors that big? any success in shrinking or removing that big tumor. Recently my dad regained his appetite and we were happy for that because he lost more than 20 kg since cancer was identified. Sorry I was too long but my dad is 78 and I just got the news today about the size of the tumor.

Hi, my mom had a tumor at the head of the Pancreas that Blocked the bile duct. They put a stint in it and that helped with the Jaundice. I bet that is what they will do for your dad. A month later (12/28/12) she had the Whipple surgery to remove the tumor and is doing great. She starts Chemo on Monday 2/11/13. She had her Ca-19-9 test done last week and her markers are 26.9.
I'm not sure what his diet looks like, but there are many things he can drink and eat to help with the inflammation and to Shrink the tumor. Aloe Vera and Coral Calcium, Cottage chesse with Flaxseed, MSM, Lots of Raw juiced Carrot and other raw juiced veggies, Cucurmin w/pepper ( can buy the brand "Gaia" and they sell it online or at Sprouts) etc.
I truley believe it can help!!!

Yes, that’s what they wanted to do for my dad but it didn’t work because the 6 cm tumor, so they just redirected the bile out of the body. They found the gallbladder infected so he will be going through some antibiotic for now.
As for the diet, my dad just eat whatever he likes. We just started recently a mixture of one tbsp. flaxseed oil + 2 tbsp cottage cheese but he doesn't always finish the bole, and now whith this problem I don’t know what he can eat or not eat, we’re waiting for the Dr. tomorrow to let him know how to continue.
The factors that play against better/quick recovery for my dad are his age and the weakness of his body because of cancer and the chemo cycles he got (9 cycles)....
