I'm having a radical prostatectomy (complete removal of the prostate) this week (on October 4). It surprised me that I got cancer because, for many years, I've been taking high levels of supplements - Life Extension Foundation mix, Booster etc with plenty of vitamin E and selenium, plus 300mg CoQ10 daily and much more. It seems however that I should have taken more lycopene (as in cooked tomatoes), green tea extract and circumin. I also should have avoided sugar (soft drinks etc) and peanuts. My homocysteine is 8 - not quite as low as I'd like, so I'm working on that with more folic acid, TMG, vit B6 and B12. I also plan to take folic acid (in powder form) 5mg three times a day - that's a lot but recent research showed it cured 28% of throat cancer in 6 months and may work on other cancers. (See latest issue of LEF magazine.) The LEF website lef.org has a wealth of information all should read. I am keen to kill off any further cancer and one thing I learnt from LEF is that one should not have morphine for pain relief after the operation - tramadol is preferable. I am keen to start IV vitamin C and LEF says it is important to take it in conjuntion with alpha lipoic acid and some other nutrients. One needs to maintain plasma levels of 400mg/dL according to LEF. I'm in Sydney and I first heard of IV vitamin C when I did a postgraduate course in Natural Medicine through a university in Melbourne. I know they used it in research, but I'm wondering where I can get it in Sydney. Will keep in touch after my operation.
