Hi there, I had a neck dissection 7 months ago, and I guess I am somewhat of a pro on the side effects and how to deal with it all. ( I had both sides done) If you are interested in some info then reply back and I can go into detail on a plan to deal with your stiff neck. I have went through trial and error, but I finally found some answers.I wish someone would have helped me but I did not know about these message boards!

Hi Sausagepot from Oudave. I had a left dissection at the James in Columbus Ohio in early 2008. I still have left neck pain and a very stiff neck. I just started some more stretching but it really feels, as you said, hit or miss. I would thoroughly appreciate it if you could tell me the exercises you use and how they have helped? In other words, will I feel worse for the first couple weeks from soreness? I take some medications as well for the neck but rather not long-term. If would be a true God-send if you could share with me or others on the Board your secrets. At first I thought it was my Cleveland Browns that made my neck stiff and before that my Reds, but now I attibute the stiffness and soreness to the pain. Thanks again for any help you can give. Best wishes, Oudave

Does anyone know good exercises for a stiff neck after a left neck dissection? Two months after surgery I'm doing okay, the scar is healing and looks good, but I feel like I have novicane in my neck, and simply rolling it around isn't doing the trick. Thanks, Karla

Hi Carla, Oudave from Columbus Ohio.  I had a left neck dissection in early 2008 at the James in Columbus Ohio and am still fighting pain and a stiff neck after the surgeryt hen radiation/chemo.  Nothing seems to work well.  I consider myself an ex-athlete so it is frustrating.  My CT/PET scans have gone well fortunately so it isn't cancer pain.  Pleae let me know what you hear and I will do the same.  May God Bless you and wrap his Spirit and Jesus around you and in your daily life.  Best wishes, Oudave
