Iam new to this site and this is my first posting. I was diagnosed with bile duct cancer Aug. 21st, I underwent a whipple procedure on Sept. 20th which went well. I was told that all the cancer that could be seen was removed. before starting chemo and radiation my oncologist had a CA-19-9 done and the results were very high (496). Catscan showed cancer spread to liver. I started chemotherapy on Xeloda (3500mg) daily, no radiation a week ago, no side effects yet.

My dad at 79 with cholangiocarcinoma that had spread to the liver was treated more aggressively. He was placed in a clinical trial using Gemzar and Carboplatin. No radiation. He did very well with minimal side effects. You might want to consider more aggressive treatment.

My mother was diagnosed with bile duct cancer and it has also spread to the liver. Surgery was not an option for it had already spread outside of the liver as well. Surgery would have done more harm then good. She had a procedure done about a month ago called Sir Spheres. It's a new treatment for inoperable liver cancer. Sir Spheres are radioactive beads delivered directly to the tumor site in the liver. So far my mother has done well with this treatment. She starts chemotherapy (Gemzar) next week to treat the cancer ouside of the liver. I hope this helps, it may be worth asking your oncologist about Sir Spheres. Best of luck.
