I'll try this again I somehow lost my first post here.
I'm 59 yrs old and was dx with MGUS a year ago, with low elevated IgG protein in my blood, my father died of MM back in 1980. I did show some small lytic lessions in my pelvic area on the skeletal survey.
I changed Hematologist/Oncologist a couple of months ago. This dr.is very good and specializes in MM.
Now, I also have osteoporosis, my bones are really thinning, and I have a mild course of MS. I have had lower back pain constantly since around May, in July I had a compression fracture in my lower spine, I had the procedure where they inject the bone cement. Shortly after that I had another small fracture higher up near the shoulder blade area, but it just healed on it's on. I just went to open a window and fractured.
I then had a small flare up with the MS, my new neuro put me on a prednisone taper, not a large dose This is the first time I have ever taken it for MS. And I find out that prednisone also thins your bones.
My new hematologist was going to do a Bone Marrow Bioposy and she started over with all the blood work and the 24 hour urine which the other doctor didn't do.
When I went back to see her, my urine test weren't back and my IgG level stayed the same which is great, I did show a few other things that were off, one being my immune system.
So we postponed the bmb until the other test came back. when I go back she will have the skeletal survey done again because now I have lots of rib pain which I have no idea where that is coming from.. of course we don't know if it's MS pain or could I be going into smolderin MM. my doctor said if the bone marrow biopsy showed anything I would be able to receive Zometa which would help strengthen my bones and hopefully help with the pain.
They called and said some protein spilled over into my urine. I don't know how much at this point in time. I'm waiting to hear back from the doctor. Hopefully today.
I was told my microglobulin was elevated in my blood work, but mostly everything looks ok on the lab work. WBC just a little low.
So now to get to my question after giving some background, has anyone ever had a low IgG for MGUS but had the spill over of protein in the urine. And have back and rib pain for no reason.
My doctor said the bone marrow biopsy with these other test will put the whole picture together to see if my fractures are from osteoporosis or smoldering MM. Pain doesn't go with osteoporosis unless you fracture.
And do you know if the microglobulin part of the blood test is the immune system. She did say that my immune system could be off from either disease even though it hasn't been proven that MS is an autoimmune disease yet or not. And it didn't show an elevation on my last blood test.
Has anyone had the smoldering myeloma before going into MM.
I apologize for the long post. I just thought this might be a good place to start asking questions. It's just all so different than when my dad had multiple myeloma.
Thank you for any information anyone may have about any of this.
