Hello,

I am in search of anyone who has gone through this & can share what experience you have.My 45 year old highschool sweetheart & now boyfriend again has been diagnosed with this & was going to have Moh's sugery Dec 5th,but the drs couldnt get together at the same time( Moh's sugeon & urologist)...so now we go Monday the 13th to Indiana University to the urologist who will perform basic excision & have a plastic surgeon do the reconstructive.
All blood work was done & ok,prostate was enlarged somewhat, white count up just a bit,but otherwise all looks good. The cancer is on the shaft & he had a biopsy which was cauterized & stitched Sept 26th.He alot of pain there & is not sexually able to perform without pain ,so isnt worth it at the moment.Has anyone had the similar & what was the down time like? How long before he would go back to work,or be active again..ect?What is recurrence likely hood?
He had contracted genital warts back in 1982 & had them removed then, only to have had a terrible dr & so saw another dr in 1997 who used liquid nitrogen & made the area MUch worse & he has been terrified of drs ever since...Then I convinced him he had to be seen right away,& I just knew it was cancer..my email is

Subject: Are There Other Resourses?
Date: 11/18/2006
Hi Kathie.
I wish I had more information or support for you as this sounds so hard in so many ways. Not only because you are dealing with cancer but also cancer of usually private parts of the body. Not many people are able to talk about their penis (understatement...)
Hope you can find other resources, people that have been through this, info from pubmed etc. My heart goes out to you. Martha

My boyfriend had his surgery at IU Monday. They did not perform Moh's,but he had excisional & the plastic surgeon did not have to graft, instead he pulled skin up from scrotum & base of penis to make a flap over the area. Its like a sideways horseshoe shape scar, about 3 inches! Bad news was from the time I 1st had him looked at in August to date of surgery,2 black areas appeared(melanoma?)....so dr.froze that area & sent off & is concerned it may not be the end of it yet.
I am awaiting a call from dr today with those results. We go back possibly next week to get stitches removed,as dr said he wanted to see him 2 weeks post surgery. This is something he has had for over many years,so this squamous cell cancer which they say is slow growing, has had lots of time to spread.I don't think he is out of the woods yet.
I would advise anyone to never put anything like this off,due to fear or embarrassment. It's your life that's on the line.

Take care,
Kathie
