Hello,

Did anybody have gone through SIRT? if so what hospital ?any success?
Please advice. Thank you

PS -SIRT is a non-surgical outpatient therapy that uses microscopic radioactive spheres, called SIR-Spheres® to deliver radiation directly to the site of the liver tumors. This unique, targeted therapy spares healthy tissue while delivering up to 40 times more radiation to the liver tumors than would be possible using conventional radiotherapy.

I have had 2 rounds *right then left)of SIRT. At first CT...which was only 6 weeks out (they say best reads are at 3 months)...I had several dead tumors...several shrunk...a few stayed same size but NONE grew in mass. I elected not to take any chemo while taking the sirt( it was my first time & I was a bit scared of the fatigue they kept talking about..which incidentally I did not get)...you of course may take everything but xeloda. Next time I may take avastin...so few side effects & I really feel like it does something. Good luck. Cherie

Hi there, I note no one else has responded to your query about this procedure. I too am contemplating this procedure (Stg iv colon cancer with liver mets).

I would also like to hear from other patients. Is anyone else out there??

To Erladyas... tell me more about your experiences since your last post. Were you on Xeloda for long?

thanks Benny

My sister was diagnosed stage IV colon cancer one yr ago. Did beam directed radiation almost a month ago. Dont even know what they called it. Seems like the name is dependent on what ever machine they use- cyberknife, stereotactic, gamma. Sounds like SIRT may be verysimilar. Not quite sure. She has bloodwork today and scan in 2 weeks. She came through 4 treatments w/no side effects at all. Enjoyed not having chemo for last month and is going on a cruise w/her husband next week. So we will find out results in a week or so after the scan. Had this done at Baylor in Dallas- Dr. Timmerman. Good luck on your treatment. keep positive.

Hi.  Dad had these done about 10 weeks ago.  He is also on 5Fu.  Last scan at 8 weeks showed one tumour (was 2cm) disappeared and the other shrunk from 3.5 to 3cm although the spheres interfered with the measurements.  He has recurrent metastatic (to the liver) Pancreas cancer and the procedure is considered experimental for this.  So far so good.  He has had more trouble from the chemo than the spheres which were tolerated well.  Any questions please ask:)
