The love of my life was diagnosed on July 18th, 2006 with MRCC. She had kidney removed and started Sutent for the tumors on both her lungs. I have now put her back in the hospital as her bowels are impacted and over the weekend it was discovered that she now has a large tumor on the top of her pelvis, along with some other spots on the pelvis, and one in her spine. The last CT scan she had showed the tumors on the lungs have shrunk considerably but now with this popping up in her bones I am so confused, I thought Sutent was doing it's job. At this point she is unable to carry on a conversation due to the high doses of morphine she is on. They have discussed radiation but will continue to do some testing on her until Wednesday when they will make the final determination on a plan of action. Does anyone have any advice for me or has anyone been to this point yet and had any type of recovery?? I am really struggling with this because everything was going so good a month ago and all of a sudden....boom.. here we are.

Hi Dean so sorry to hear your news. I wish I had some wonderful words of wisdom or magic medical advise to give you but I don't. I just wanted to say "hang in". We have not reached that stage yet but fear within me sees it coming. My husband is on sutent and had to come off the first cycle after 3 weeks because of creatine. Now we are waiting to hear if he can restart it. However we are no where you are. Know we are thinking of you and praying for good news for you. Keep us posted. Mazzy

Not all renal cell cancers are the same. Some are high grade, some are low grade (grade is based on the cancer's appearance under a microscope). Some patients with low grade renal cell carcinoma have lived 5 years and beyond.

Yesterday was a hard day. She can no longer walk and has had some loss of use of her left arm. The doctors were thinking stroke but after an MRI of her head all is clear, no cancer and no stroke. They now seem to be managing her pain better as she has become lucid again. Last night they did more xrays of her pelvic and lower spine area and discovered more tumors. Later today they will do another round of scans on her complete spine to see how far up the spine it has gone. Yesterday the doctors told us she only has a couple of months and when she is released from the hospital she will have to go to a nursing home. I am not ready to give up yet and am still hoping for a miracle. She is something special, this morning she apologized to me for putting me through all this!!!

Dean my heart goes out to you. Being a caregiver has to be one of the hardest jobs you will ever have to do. You are a wonderful person and I am sure she loves you with all her heart. It is hard to hear that she is sorry for putting you through this but that is probably how she feels. My husband has said the same thing to me and I always tell him that "that is what love is all about". I like you beleive in miracles and the miracle may not be what we pray for but we have to trust. So hang in and love her with all your heart. Make everyday the best day of your life. You are in my prayers. Mary
