My mother (81) has just been diagnosed with butterfly glioma in the front lobes of her brain. The doctor says it is inoperable. My sister and I have mixed feelings about subjecting her to chemo and radiation since the doctor said the usual diagnoses is between 8 to 18 months and he has no idea how long my mother has had the tumor. Three months ago she was living on her own. Today, she is wheelchair bound and can't feed herself since she no longer knows how to use a fork or hold a spoon. Sometimes she recognizes people, sometimes she doesn't. The last few days she has refused to answer anyone and just glares at all around her. I can only think the tumor is causing such a change in her behaviour. Has anyone else had the same thing happen to an older parent? Have they been successfully treated with chemo/radiation? My sister is having to deal with this alone as my mother lives in Scotland and I live in Alaska. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
