I was recently diagnosed with ESS from a pathological report after my hysterectomy.  I was on your message board and saw many remarks regarding Megace.  Should I stay away from this and inquire about another medicine?  I am very anemic because of a gastric bypass that I had in 2003.

Megace is considered the gold standard drug for ESS, but it does cause mood swings, anxiety, weight gain and fatigue. There are other aromatase inhibitors like Arimidex and Femara, but I'm not sure about their use in ESS.  Ask your doc.

I was diagnosed in 1997 with ESS. I was put on Megace immediatly              after my hysterectomy. The first 3-4 years was not too bad - weight gain and depression. In the last 5 years I have had many more side effects. A lot of them simialar to Cushing's Syndrome.

I am not trying to dissuade you from taking it - even with my problems I have been cancer free for 9 years. According to my oncologist it is the best.

Good luck with your decision.
