Rectal Melanoma

I have rectal melanoma, I know it is rare. Anyone else out there? What treatments are available?

Hello Gary, my mother has rectal melanoma and the only treatments that she has taken or clinical trial treatments. There isn't one that we know off, besides the clinical trials. I'm not certain where your from but the Sammon Center in Baylor Hospital, Dallas TX, may can assist you. Sorry I didn't have much information, take care.

My husband has just been diagnosed with rectal melanoma as the primary cancer. It has not spread elsewhere in the body. Our oncologist has said he needs surgery immediately to remove the tumor and then a year or more of interferon shots. These are not for a cure, but to prolong his life. I don't know after reading the side effects if we want to go through them or not for just a few more months of living. We may just have the surgery and live the rest of his days enjoying each other and thanking God for each day that He bestows. Please keep in touch if you like.

I have rectal melanoma that has spread to the right groin lymph nodes. Surgery, chemo, and radiation will not help at least that is what I believe so I have had a pain pump installed; it has made quite a difference in my life with cancer. So far, nothing has led me to believe that there is a treatment; just more surgery than necessary. God Bless!

My husband had rectal surgery the end of Nov. 2005. He now has a colostomy and the anal area is sewed shut. He has not had any chemo or radiation or interferon shots. From what I have researched and what the doctor and physician assistant tells me, nothing will do any good as it doesn't respond to the melanoma. We are Christians and we are just submitting to God's will for Bill. He has his good days and bad days and takes 2 percocet in the morning and 2 in the evening and that seems to help for now. He has many other things bothering him including pain in his scrotum area and numbing of the fingers of his left hand. When he mentions these symptoms to the oncologist, he just seems to pass over it and not really address it. This upsets Bill, but we don't know what to do. Our primary care physician doesn't have any answers either. I don't know what is ahead, but the prognosis does not seem to be good even though the doctor says that for now Bill is cancer free. That does not mean that he is cured.

The oncologist is only interested in studying cancer. Go to a Pain Management doctor. They can install a pain pump that continuously pumps morphine into the spine. I was taking 90 mg of morphine and 8 percocets a day before the pump. I now do not take anything now and I have no pain.

My Aunt was diagnosed with Rectal Melanoma cancer about a month and a half ago. She has talked to several doctors and her outcome os not the greatest. But she has went to a doctor and they are doing a surgery to remove what they can of the cancer. She will have to  have a permanant removal which means she will have a bag  to go to the bathroom but I guess that is better than not being able to see her child grow up. It may not cure all of her cancer but it may help. Talk to your doctor about having the surgery if you haven't already. How are you doing? Please let me know what you find out. I hope all is well and that you have found some answers.

Hello out there. Hope you are doing well. It is now 2007. I have just had a small rectal melanoma removed. Anyone else have any information/experience with this? I would appreciate ANY helpful feedback. Thanks very much. Marie h.

My father is Doucon from above.  I'm sorry to say that he passed away on the 16th of March.  He had the tumor removed at the end of December '06.  It spread like wildfire after that.  Liver, lungs, and stomach.  He died 18 months and 1 week after he was dianosed.  I can share a little bit of his treatment if you would like to know more.  He was 50 when he died.

From what I understand is that surgery is the only thing you can do and get a pet scan  to see if its any where else
