Subject: Efudex Treatment

I spent my life outdoors, have had many skin cancers, and am now trying another solution.  I just started this Efudex treatment about 14 days ago, and am extremely uncomfortable and experience more pain each day.  It is really good to see that this is not unique, and that others have had varying degrees of ease, pain, desire for seclusion, and angst.  My doctor was not very infromative or candid about the treatment problems, so this was a great find.  The tips on aquaphor and vaseline were useful; I will try them soon to see how they work.

I am not sure this is getting posted yet - my first time on a chat/blog, so will  see if this ends up in the right message board.    Thanks for nice thoughts.

I am just getting ready also to begin efudex all over my chest area.  I spent all my young years swimming out in sun everyday with no spf.  I went thru a year of lasers for squamous cell which I think did not do very well for I am still covered with cancer lesions and aks.  Then I had 8 mohs surgeries on my chest face and hands... but I have so much sun damage the doctor gave me the chemo cream.   I just finished efudex on my forehead and it is a mess!  I havent left the house for the past month.  My treatment was two weeks of efudex and a follow up week with a coritsone to calm it down.   The cortisone was in a cream  like aquaphor and it really helped with the pain.  The worse thing about the face treatment is that you are so unsightly and it is very painful.  I think the chest will be easier for you can cover it up and go outside in public.  I have had such serious depression with this.... has anyone had long lasting results with the efudex?

I am about 13 days into what is suppose to be a 2 week course of Efudex treatment on my forehead and scalp.

For those who may be interested, I am keeping a pictorial log of the daily changes along with a blog containing  other notes and comments.

Perhaps it will be useful for those who don't know quite what to expect (I'm not completely sure what to expect myself)

The above link seems to be broken - cut/paste seems to work - but I will try again (and I can't seem to edit the post)
