Port Removal - When??

I was thinking everything was done, after my treatment I thought my port would be removed.  Now still 7 months after treatment finished my doctor said best not to take out the port because it may be needed again, keep it in for two years as cancer was advanced (Stage 2 colon cancer).  Has anyone else had this same message?  I am grateful not to be on treatment anymore but hate having this thing, I feel like it may break when I am lifting up my kids or sweeping the yard or something.  

Please let me know your thoughts on this.

Hi Enggal:

I finish my chemo in Sept.-2007, which is 9 months ago. After 6 months I got scheduled Ct/Scan. My doc. told me that I could wait for another 6-months for next Ct/Scan with the port on me. She sad that I could have this port for my hall life, if I want. I could do any thing without a fear. I got the same type of cancer as you, but it was reocurrenece after 5 years in peritoneal node. So, be patient and do not afraid to live with it. God bless you. I wish you never ever us it. Yelena
