Subject: 75 year old mother with EC

Hello Everybody,

This is my first day on this site but not my first day researching this cancer. Today since my first posting about my mother I have learned that she may have lung cancer also. There is a spot on her left lung that her family doctor says is cancer but her oncologist says it might not be. My mom had a pet scan Dec 23 '06. Her oncologist says this test shows suv's (?). The esophagus is a 10 meaning cancer but since her lung shows a 2.1 it might not be. The oncologists says the cancer in the esophagus has not spread and if the lung is cancer it is seperate. We are still waiting for test to see if she can have surgery to remove the esophagus.  The Medical University in Charleston, SC looks like where it would be done. Does anybody have any experience with this hospital. We are trying to get all the info we can. I am afraid with my mothers overall health conditions she will never survive such a surgery. This is what my gut tells me. But is dying from the surgery a better way to go than suffering for God knows how long trying other treatments? Does anyone know about cryotherpy? My mother is my best friend and I feel so helpless to help her. She lives with me and I cannot bear to lose her. She had breast cancer 6 years ago that was in early stages, not spread anywhere. This cancer seems to be more deadly. Bless everyone going through this struggle, Pat
