My aunt (who is my world) has been in and out of the hospital for 2 weeks, she has a huge knot on her neck (about the size of a golf ball). Her pain is so intense to the point she is getting dilauded for the pain, she is  very nauseated. She has had ct's mri's and xrays the Dr. biopsied it on tuesday for possible infection and that showed nothing.Today the Dr. came in and said they are going to do another ct and then test her bone marrow for possible lymphoma. She now has terrible pain up the back of her neck and into her head.Today she has also noticed her underarm is swollen, her chest and back are very painful. Her platelet count is low  and her wbc are high.I guess my question is is does this sound like lymphoma?

So, This sounds like it, and I say that with great reservation because different things can cause this. I have alot of experiance with this as my husband has been batteling Lymphoma for 3 years ans it appears as if we are relapsing. Here are some things for you to do right now: 1,) Get a Note Book with Paper and write down the day she went in to the hospital, what her signs and symtoms were, the tests that were done, and the doctors she was seen by. 2.) From this point on keep track of all new docs such as oncologists, and any scans that are being done as well. 3.) Request all copies of her Lab work, Xrays, Scans, and Pathology Reports. You are doing all of this incase she is sent to a different facility that is better able to deal with her cancer, if that is what it is. Try to rest now, and talk with the oncologists, and of you dont like what you hear do not be afraid to get a second opinion, If this is Lymphoma I would get Dr. Loius F. Diehl from Duke university involved. I have all of his information, just let me know if you need it. I will be praying for you, Shawna

Your aunts physician is definately on the right track.  Be thankful that she has a thourough doctor who is leaving nothing to chance.  Tell her to have faith in her doctor.  And keep her faith in God and every one in the family should get together an pray for a speedy recovery.  Lymphoma can be put into remission or cured when caught in early stages. How do I know?   It runs in my family.  My aunt lived for twelve years after diagnosis and passed on from a heart attack.  My cousin is fighting lymphoma right now.  He was diagnosed with it in July, 2006.  Hes back to work and doing well.  My grandmother had it but she was old and her heart gave out.  The lymphoma didnt kill her.  She had a bad heart for many years and after bringing up eight children and taking care of everyone else,  she became worn out.  I loved her very much and after thirty years since her passing  I still miss her.

I was recently diagnosed with diffuse large b cell lymphoma, the intermediate aggressive one.  Just finished my 3rd dose of chemo and will have a restaging pet scan after my 4th dose.  The doctor plans on giving me at least 6 total doses depending upon the pet scan.   So far my CBC is staying realatively normal with the help of Lunesta and my bone marrow was normal. I just want to keep informed of anything I could do, eat, etc.  if I ever get into remission. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help,

J
