you may see some people classify all the MPD's (ET is one) as a form of leukemia. Technically ET is a myeloproliferative disorder. "myelo" is the Greek word for marrow. "proliferative" means growing and "disorder" means an abnormal function. So MPD is the improper function of the bone marrow. Technically it is not cancer at all.
