Hi:

My Mother was just diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal cancer.  We just currently underwent a biopsy on Tuesday to determine exactly what type of cancer it is.  The initial ct scan showed it to be a 6 centimeter mass but the ct scan of the neck showed no cancer in the neck.  I know this is a rare type of cancer.  We will find out more Tuesday as to the stage of it the way I understand it.  I am just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this type of cancer.  I understand that treatment will be radiation  or radiation and chemo.  I am extremely scared.  I would greatly appreciate any information or feedback anyone might have.  Thank you dearly.  My whole family is terrified.

Hi,

I hope your mother is doing well.  It is very scary!!!  I am 44 and was diagnosed with cancer in my ethmoid cavity (behind the nose).  I underwent radiation for 35 days and 7 doses of chemo.  It was tough, but with so much going on in your mind, time really goes by pretty fast.

They have come so far in the treatments nowadays that you can get through this.  I think the hardest part, looking back at the whole ordeal, was being diagnosed and dealing with the shock and the fear of "Oh, no.  What am I going to do?"

Just keep your head up and have faith in your caregivers.  Make sure they are good and just do what you're told.  The rest will work itself out.

Good luck
