Subject: bladder cancer spread to lymph glands
Date: 01/28/2007

My 86 year old mother has bladder cancer which has spread to her lymph glands; the cancer is also blocking the ureter to her right kidney, rendering it disfunctional. Within the last 2-3 weeks, Mom has gained 14 pounds in the lower half of her body, stretching the skin in her legs as taut as a drum. The oncologist explains that the cancer is blocking her lymph channels and fluids cannot pass through. Since the underlying cause of the problem is cancer and there are no more treatment options for Mom (she has had chemotherapy and radiation), there is no way to address the edema. Has anyone experienced this kind of development as a result of metastasis, and if so, what is the outcome of of unchecked water retention? The lower half of her body is extremely swollen and very uncomfortable--I don't know how much more her skin can stretch. Has anyone had or known someone with this experience? Thank you and bless you for sharing.

I have a an invassive tumor that got into the muscle. But maybe I can answer one of your questions here. My left ureter was blocked thus shutting down the left kidney. When they did my TURBT they tried to open it up with a Cath which some how slipped ne ways it did not work. Now the next day back into the OR they put in a stent and that did the trick got my ureter open and kidney working. I hope this helps some and to me it seems Dr's know they need to get this ureter open so no kidney damage or chance of losing it. Best Wishes, Joe

Have you ever tried herbal remedies.  I know that essies tea is very good with patients with water retension.  If you have tried everything else, you can't lose by trying it. Her age does not make treatment any easier. My prayers are with you and your mom.

No offense here but her Mom needs to get that kidney opened. In my other post they do this by putting in either a Cath or stent to open ureter to get the kidney functioning. Possibly the swelling in her legs is due to water retention since the kidney is not working. Talk to your Dr. but that kidney needs to be opened period. Herbs to not to this. Best Wishes, Joe
