I am new to this board...Medullary Thyroid cancer .2 surgeries....8 lymph nodes(4 of which were canerous) removed on left side  and total thyroidectomy. This was 7 weeks ago..Still very uncomfortable...I feel like my throat is swelling...choking...difficulty swollowing.....especially in the morning and after physical activity. Does anyone have experience with medullary????  Post -op struggles??? I would deeply appreciate input..I sometimes think I,m crazy...The dr's said I have alot of anxiety...Not very reassuring..

Please read my message "Cancer again!! Now what" Aloha Wahine

Your not crazy.  My trach was taken out in Dec 06 and I still feel like I have it in.  I am still uncomfortable from everything also.  The worst is the scar itches so much.  I'm in Kentucky now and boy is the cold affecting my neck and chest.  Sometimes, I feel like I'm a very old person.  I have trouble getting up from chairs with all my neck and chest trauma.  Well, I don't know if this will help but maybe my story will enlighten you in some way.  Just remember you are not alone.  Yes, we all have anxiety but we're not crazy.  Our pains and aches are very real.  I guess it's hard for doctors to symphatize when they have not been there like us.  Keep the faith!! I had a total thyroidectomy as well as some lymph nodes removed last year due to papillary carcinoma. What your feeling is normal scar tissue. It does get better. Massage your neck, do some neck stretching, and eventually--maybe several months--it will feel much closer to normal. It's been a year, and I can even still feel a little "lumpiness" when I swallow or sing. My surgeon and doctors say this is completely normal--scar tissue just takes a while to break up.
