Subject: Constipation normal after thyroid ablation procedure?
Date: 01/30/2007

Hi everyone

I am just wondering if it is normal to have constipation after ablation procedure. I have been having trouble going to the bathroom. Each morning I have spend half an hour imaging my large intestine move and that sometimes help a little bit. My tummy feels like I have a full bag stored inside....

Things that may be causing constipation, depending on your circumstances:  you had to go (or are currently) hypothyroid, you were especially inactive for a while, or you took some pain meds along the opium line such as oxycodone, oxycontin, all those morphine types.  Just thoughts.

You are right, I am still in the hypothyroid status because I have to wait till I finish my second set of RAI on Friday. Also, I was just released from quarantine because of the I-131 ablation treatment. Do you know how long will it take for me to get better? My doctor just gave me some pills for diarrhea...it helps a little

I felt better after about 48 hours on meds (compared to being very very hypo for RAI); but then it takes a couple weeks to really start feeling better.  Hang in there and eat fruit (prunes, if you like them).  And drink lots of water.
