My wife had an accoustic nuroma tumor which is not cancerous but I wanted to tell you about the side affects which our neurosurgeon did not. Her tumor is in the inner ear canal where the nerves controlling balance, hearing and facial muscles run. Upon finding she had the tumor our doctor told us that surgery would be very risky and possiblity of facial parlaysis or we could opt for novalis radiation which had virtually no side affects and she could even work that afternoon after treatment in the morning if she wanted. About six months after radiation we were out to dinner and she got extremely dizzy and vomiting constantly which ended us up in the hospital. The novalis damaged her nerve for balance, which we think is now permanent, and about 3 to 4 times a year she gets so dizzy she can only lay on the floor completely helpless, I have had to go pick her up from work or wherever it hits and take her to hospital or home. I just wanted you to know there is side affects and to get a second opinion, we went to Rochester after a year of doctors here saying "I don't know" and they said they would have done surgery because of side affects of radiation. Please get second opinions before novalis.
