My scottish terrier had surgery to remove a growth (which they really thought was not cancer) in early December. The growth did show portions of transitional cell carcinoma. It said it had moderate growth but local recurrence could occur. She had history of blood in her urine about once a year for the last 4 years. Each time the doctor did many tests to rule out cancer. We always had sonograms done and bladder tumor antigen tests and the blood would go away after a round of antibiotics. My worry was always bladder cancer since I knew that scotties were high on the list for this dreadful disease. So we did everything to try to increase her immunity and make sure cancer would not come.

It was such a surpise when we found out it was cancer. The cancer was not in the trigone area so surgery was possible. The surgeon said that if it was cancer we could then actually remove a part of her bladder. During the first surgery he tried to get as much out as possible but did warn cells could still be there. She was started on .5 of piroxicam and the following herbal products and vitamins: noni juice, pine bark extract, tcc support, cancer formula, milk thistle plus, pet fraction, cell advance, vascustatin, immkine and fish oil. She is also on baytril.  Her diet consists of fish, sweet potato or brown rice, organic apples, green veggies. She is has many food allergies so we narrowed it down to just fish at this point.  We always cooked for her and use only distilled water. She excerises and we have avoided vaccinations. We do not treat our garden with chemicals and always avoid chemically treated areas when walking. When I rescued her she had crystals in her urine so I read so much about bladder cancer I started doing everything I could.  I feel we have done everything since we rescued her 5 years ago to protect her and this cancer still came. It is so frustrating.

We went back for our monthly visit and the doctor took a bladder tumor antigen test. We were surprised to find out it came back positive. He called us back for a sonogram and we found out it already grew back in just two months. He suggested that we remove part of the bladder and start a few other remedies right away.

We are going to Dr. Goldsein's who wrote the Nature of Animal Healing and feel that they have the most options offered.

 My questions/concerns are as folllowed:

Is it safe to remove a portion of the bladder? He did warn us of frequent urination which is ok with me.

Should I be considering chemo at all? I read so much negative on chemo.

Is there anything else we may be missing?

Has anyone had a similar experience?

How about accupuncture or Vitamin C therapy?

I am having a hard time deciding if we should do the surgery next week so any suggestions or comments would help.

Thanks

Lori and Terri
