My husband has esophageal stage 4 with mets to lung, liver, glands he has been doing chemo since November about 1 month ago we went to see Dr. Mitchell Gaynor in NYC. My husband liked him I felt that he was giving him false hope. My question is has anyone seen his doctor and what are your feeling about him.My husband is only 46 years young and we have 2 young kids. I hope someone will write back. Thank you very much.

I don't know this dr., but I do know that positive thinking may be just what your husband may need.  My husband was just dx in September and after the initial shock he has had nothing but support from all around and he has relished in it.  Like your husband, mine is young also, only 37 and we have 4 kids.  I know that we all want truth and honesty, but I also want less days filled with worry and more days filled with living.  From what we have seen most of the drs. are pretty up front and honest.  I don't know at all if I have helped, but I hope your family gets through this.  I love this site because you know that around the world others really do care even if they don't know you.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband.

Hello thank you for replying to my post. We did also go to SKM we saw Dr. Shah. I very much liked him. We saw him two times. Dr. Shah told it like it is that he had about 6 months left. With or without chemo would be the same time frame. We spoke to Shah regarding Dr Gaynor and he never heard of him I am not sure what hosp he is out of. My husband sees an Oncologist on Long Island he gets his chemo right in his office. We like him alot. Its easy for us because we live on Long Island.

Who do you see at SKM? What stage is your husband? What treatment is he getting? I hope you dont mind all my questions. Please write back. Thank you very much.

My husband sees Dr. Nancy Mills.  He goes to the satelite site in Westchester.  Dr. Mills is a wonderful human being.  She calls us on weekends and at night to see how he is.  He had 28 radiation treaments with the chemo (cisplatin and FU5)  Our GI doctor found the cancer and saw it at its worst.  He then did another endoscopy after the treatment and could not believe how much the tumor shrank.  It is still there though and also his lymph nodes are still hot.  His surgery was cancelled the day before he was supposed to have it.  They discovered he had portal hypertension and said he would die from the surgery.  Dr. Mills called us about 30 minutes after they cancelled the surgery and she was as upset as we were.  She couldn't talk without choking up.  But, no one is telling us a time frame.  They are saying he has a 50/50 chance.  It's so frustrating.  This Friday he will be having a test to see if the tumors are growing or are stable for now.   Depending on what the test shows, I have found 3 alternative treatment possibilities.  Please do not hesitate to ask me anything or just blurt out your feelings to me.  We can e-mail privately and just be there for each other.  I live in CT, but work in a hospital in Westchester.  All my best wishes to you.  Let's keep in touch.
