Sister Melanoma Recurrence?

Hello ! I am Traci and we have a high risk melanoma history in our family. I am asking anyone out there who knows information about rectal melanoma my sister has had stage 1 melanoma removed from her wrist a year and a half ago(a month after our Mother died of it) now she has a spot on her rectum the size of a half dollar soon to be removed doctors tell her its likely nothing to worry about but she wonders whats going on what hope can we give her if it is? help anyone? thanks

I was diagnosed with stage 3 Malignant Melanoma in May 2006.  My life has been turned upside down ever since. They say they got all the tumor in surgery, but once it is in the lymph node system, they just do not know when it will reoccur.  Every time I get a pimple or pain or anything suspicious at all I worry. I am worried all the time. Melanoma is a horrible disease.  I feel for your sister.  All i can say is, find as much support as possible and have faith. i have made some good contacts and that helps. Write me back if you wish.  Maybe we can help eachother a litlle.

Hi Traci,

I had my first melanoma removed in 1995. I was told no worries.  The seecond was removed in 1997 again....no worries we got it all. Both were on my back dangerously near my spinal column,  In 2003, I was diagnosed with not one but 3 different metastic spreads via lymph nodes to various parts of my body. I have done chemo and radiation and surgery. I got my latest scan results yesterday and was advised that yes there is another of the blasted things growing on my spine between the 1st and 2nd cerebral vertebrae. My best advice is for your sister to get a second or even a third opinion if needed. My oncologist has told me that one round of chemo after the 2nd was removed would probably have saved me from all that I have been through. Granted my case is rare. Large teaching and research hospitals seem to be the most up to date on melanoma treatment. I dislike the environments at these hospitals as I despise being treated like a cross between a guinea pig, a lab rat and a circus sideshow freak.  I will keep your family in my prayers. Prayer, family support and a positive attitude help far more than most people know.

if your sister has anal melanoma it is very serious if the doctors are not saying that they are not well informed. it is very rare and almost impossible to treat because chemo and radation dont help. my husband also has this disease. the doctors have already gave him abdominal suryury and he now has a bag(stoma) he had surg.in april for that now the cancer is in his lungs. its hard to find doctors with knowledge of thistype of cancer because it is so rare. the mel.clinic in texas i hear is good my husband did not want to go .be strong and demand answers because sometimes it is hard to get them .  i will pray for you both

hello,My daughter was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma 11b, several years ago. I did some internet research and found that many cancers are an immune system deficiency. After more research, I found that Kombucha mushroom tea was at the top of the list. I looked on the internet and found a source for the culture and began a batch. After several attempts I had a not to bad tasting tea, which I shared with my daughter on a regular basis. Several months went by and I met an older gal that heard my story in a conversation and was looking to get a culture. This gal proceeded to tell me her experiences with Kombucha mushroom tea and her melonoma which she had on her upper chest. " I use to drink the tea everyday and also suave my melonoma patch with the tea also, I no longer have melonoma."  A kombucha mushroom tea culture can be obtained on the internet. I don't know if the tea is the reason that my daughter went into remission or not. She is still in remission after 4 yrs. My daughter also was treated with chemothearphy and radiation treatments. I wish you a successful recovery.

Thanks for your thoughts Melanoma is vicious ! you have to be optimistic!. when my Mother was in Pittsburgh for interferon treatments there were plenty of other patients that were responding well ! everyone is so different. She did pass away a couple of years ago at 57 years old. This was a tragedy it should not have happened but she left my sister and I with the hope that if we remain proactive and have our skin screened regularly we should be able to head this off.  well that hasnt been the case for my sister. She just had that spot removed yesterday just hoping the path results come back negative ! You hang in there and remember you are not alone we are all in this together !!

Oh well thank heavens for good news !!! and bless you and your family I will certainly share this with my sister. We have a long way to go to find a cure for cancer that is for sure ! I appreciate your thoughts
