Subject: What does all this mean?
Date: 02/07/2007
I'm dx'd with stage 4a T2 N2b Mo metastatic squamous cell carcinoma. Primary was found in my left tonsil after tonsilectomy. Cancer was first found after removal of swollen lymph node and then in another node at a later surgery.  I'm looking for an answer in laymens terms for what stage 4a T2 N2b M0 means. Can someone help me out with this?

Hi Lee - My husband just finished treatment for SCC tonsil and 3 lymph nodes.  Go to www.oralcancerfoundation.org and click on "diagnosis" and then click on "staging" - that should explain it all.  Also, your doctor should have explained it to you as well.  The Oral Cancer Foundation message board has a vast supply of knowledge and hundreds of people like us who will help you with your questions and concerns as you start your treatment.  If I can help at all, please ask.  You are in for a rough road treatment wise but it is doable.  Be strong, follow instructions, stay hydrated and start eating as much as possible now and remember we are all behind you and praying for you, too.  Take care.  Be sure you are being treated by a comprehensive cancer center - the website above can also steer you to them as well.
